I checked this cd many times at my local Library that I decided to buy it, it is great! I like that the lyrics are included. beautiful songs.

CHANT arrived in good condition ahead of the promised delivery date and for a bargain price. The singing is well done. However, I never recognized one selection of the ultra long list of chants that are a radical departure from Kyrie Eleison and Magnificat anima mea. I played it while in bed and drifted off to sleep even after being kinda disappointed in the selections. This is not saying YOU won't be transfixed and inspired by the rhythm, melodies, and selections chosen by the totally-dedicated monks.

from start to finish a wonderfuly dismal and solemn collection of religious arias. Best suited at a funeral or during a serious session of misanthropy and introflection. A definate must have for serious opera fans!!!!!

Pavarotti is in his prime for this one and the selections are both touching and grand. Mille Cherubini, a tender lullaby, is my favorite but his Agnus Dei is rich and grand. The choral backgrounds are also very good. I bought the cassette when it came out in the 70's and I am thrilled that they reissued it as CD to grace my 2007 Christmas .

To my great surprise, in the last two decades of his life Solti turned into a marvelous Mozart interpreter. His '80's Figaro, and '90's Magic Flute and Cosi fan Tutte are among my favorite versions, Sir Georg's sometimes abrasive nervous energy (and scholarly use of reduced orchestral forces) makes for fantastically dramatic, anti-romantic readings. This requiem, recorded on the 200th anniversary of Mozart's death in St Stephen's cathedral in Vienna benefits from an awesome reverberant acoustic, a quartet of fabluous operatic singers (and let's face it, this is an opera manque, religiose, not religious, "the sickly sweets of operatic sin" as Stravinsky called it, and a good thing too I say). Excerpts of the actual Mass ceremony are interspersed, and ... Read More:

If you like this type of modern music presented in a unique style with some excellent voices give this a try. the style is not to everyones tast, I'm hooked and my usual preference for music is more like linkin park and evanescence. But i love this in heavy traffic on the way home, it keeps down the road rage without having to listen to archaic religious latin verse.

I purchased this version of the monks of Santo Dominto De Silos at the same time I bought the 2008 edition of the Gregorian chant by the Cistercian Monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz (Chant: Music for the Soul). While the effort of the Santo Domingo monks was highly praised when it was released, I fully understand why the version by the Cistercian monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz was so brightly hailed. The Spanish recording seems regimented, in contrast to that of the Austrian Cistercian monks of 2008, who seem quite sublime, un-regimented, and singing only in response to their devotion to God. Even so, this recording by the Spanish monks is clear, pure, and by the books; it is authentic. If you are interested in Gregorian chant, you should have a chant ... Read More:
