Ms Tedeschi is possessed of great talents, but if this album is any indication, musical judgement and taste are not among them.
She has surrounded herself with people who, for the most part, are very good at playing notes, but don't have a clue about playing music. Every single track is overly serious and none of the swing.
Someone once said, "if it can't be done on 8 tracks, it's not worth doing." This album certainly supports that view!
Ms Tedeschi would be better served sparser arrangements and partners who can play the blues. Listening to Teddy Wilson's recording with Billie Holiday would be a good place for her to start.

This new CD from Buddy Guy is outstanding. Not only his talent but the people he uses to complete the selection of songs is worth every penney!

I had heard an review on National Public Radio and since my husband is a big blues fan, I thought I'd try it. This was a wonderful surprise! We love the CD and would recommend it to anyone - whether they are a major blues fan or not.

The fact that this guy would probably be a hit with John Mayer fans is a blow to this guy, since John Mayer is easily one of the worst hacks making music (no, muzak) today. I was hinted to call this guy a slightly more interesting John Mayer with an acoustic guitar. Sure, it's not deep music, it won't start anything, but it's breezy, chill music (not muzak, thank god). It's definitely worth getting.
The sound of Jack Johnson is a good one, it will definitely relax you. It's a very chill album, but it's soothing and makes you feel good, than rather making you feel drowsy, bored, and wanting to rip your hair out. Jack Johnson plays smooth, sharp, refreshing melodies on the guitar, and his very cool voice floats together. The ... Read More:

Taj Mahal has all the qualities of a true American, nay, world master musician: vocal and instrumental technique, characteristic personal style, the curiosity of exploration, the fearlessness of experimentation, wisdom, and group leadship. Listening to this wide-ranging CD, I was struck with how many blues styles he captured, from country to urban, from the Deep South to the Caribbean to West Africa, at home on banjo, harmonica, and acoustic and electric guitars. With the great group Los Lobos and also the Phantom Blues Band and Ziggy Marley's Band as support, we take a grand tour of a great musical soul, the result of decades of learning. Having first heard Taj Mahal 40 years ago and enjoyed his works over the ensuing years, I regard this album ... Read More:

..for me not the real Gary Moore. For me the Gary Moore of the 80's was virtually untouchable. The man played with a fire and conviction like no other and his guitar chops were out of this world. Killer tone and peerless playing. THAT Gary Moore is easily one of my favorite top 3 guitar players. I didn't mind much when he started concentrating full time on blues releases because his playing has always been blues-based, just like so many other rock greats. I love Still Got The Blues and After Hours but I kind of got tired of Gary in that format and longed for him to return to his hard rock ways.
To the total disappointment of many that will never happen. Gary has turned his back on those days and appears to be quite dismissive of that work. ... Read More:

I've been a blues fan for 30 years now and I'm always on the lookout for any band that plays fresh tunes and keeps the jams short and tight. A welcome record for anyone sick and tired of hearing the Chess songbook over and over and again.
Tight, soulful, and unique. Notables include the long forgotten Roy Milton gem "Keep a dollar in your pocket" and Junior Wells' "I found out." Elvin's next record should be more hidden gems like these. He's got to know tons of other songs like these Roy Milton and minor Junior Wells tunes just sitting around. T-bone Walker comes to mind...

This CD was a total impulse buy for me--I had never even heard of Jeff Healey before. But I saw it in a separate display case in the store, it looked interesting, and I hadn't listened to any blues in a while, so I thought I'd give it a try. I am very glad I did. There's a lot of good ol' rollicking electric blues on this disc, including interesting interpretations of "Like a Hurricane" and "Shake Rattle and Roll," which I thoroughly enjoyed. Not every song is a winner, hence the 4 stars, but this is a solid electric blues disc, highly recommended. I've already ordered another Jeff Healey CD online.
