With the exception of the last song on the disc (Oh, Had I a Golden Thread), these songs were recorded live as Eva Cassidy performed and sang them -- no overdubs or substitutions -- and they sound great. Her voice is wonderful, bright, crisp and clear, and she has a way of making each song her own. The recording also includes her introductions to the songs. If you have her other CDs then you owe it to yourself to get this live set.

I had the album for quite a while before I played the DVD. It's fantastic and maybe the first time I understood where all these amazing sounds come from. The music is wonderful, many of the songs I like even more than the studio version (how often does that happen?). But don't miss the DVD, it's simply amazing!

For a while the most bootlegged rock record of all. When this was released in 1998 I rushed out and bought it immediately. I had an old cassette recording that somebody had copied from somebody else from a bootleg LP. So at least 3rd hand and thought I would never see the day that Dylan allowed this to be issued properly.
I'm not going to talk about the recordings, as other reviewers have already covered these in ample detail. The CD's (2) are well packaged with a 54 page booklet which gives you a lot of information into the background and history of these recordings. As a leftfield starter the booklet mentions the famous 1913 Stravinsky performance of "The Rite of Spring" which caused a riot. Despite this excellent packaging its ... Read More:

Well, if you don't have this do yourself a favour and buy it. The package is great with great photos from the show.
As for Dylan, he is in high spirits and most possibly stoned out of his mind as he laughs, shares jokes, forgets lyrics...
He is also delivering all songs passionately making this one concert a very special indeed. A mere three months later he was recording Bringing It All Back Home and by doing so he was also a new Dylan.

Bob Dylan is a genius, but this sh#t is sh#t. Pales in comparison to both the bootleg series concerts from 1964 and 1966. In Rolling Thunder, what's with all the shouting lyrics? Too self-indulgent with his voice and musical arrangements. Plus bland generic 70's rock-style sound from the band. Very overrated music which will not stand the test of time like his better stuff. For hardcore fans only.

I love Harry Chapin and this is a great album, but be warned that this CD version is not the full album. It's missing two cuts: Love is Just Another Word, and She is Always Seventeen. I bought this to replace a cassette tape I have had forever and noticed that the number of tracks didn't match. Then I noticed a disclaimer in very small print that these two songs weren't included "due to time restrictions." Personally, I think this is a bit of a ripoff. To make matters even worse, neither of those songs is available as an MP3 download.

i remember seeing this when it first came out .the MTV unplugged series was definitely an armature show till natalie and the maniacs appeared and i never even heard of them the track- because the night became an instant hit you can still hear it on radios stations almost daily (my other favorite was -like the weather )all the tracks were great and the band and natalie were on point this show put the unplugged series on the map and set the standards high it was also visually pleasing to watch but they didnt put it on DVD my other favorite was the nirvana episode no DVD either

The sound quality of the CD is terrible. It sounds like a homemade cassette tape. The music is plain enough, but it plays much softer than any other CD and sounds like it's coming from cheap speakers.

Coming off of the harrowing power of their lamenting "Tonight's The Night", Neil Young and Crazy Horse later proved their tenacity with this clever concept album. It's interesting how the spirit of rock and roll can be captured by merely turning up the distortion for each consecutive track, until the first song is practically remade with a scratchy, loud, and almost total revision. The tracks in the middle, unfortunately, seem like filler for this concept and not much else. But the message of "Rock and Roll Will Never Die" is made clearer with each turn of the effects dial, and the result is almost scary.
