There was something about 'Return To Cookie Mountain' that intrigued me and I tried repeatedly to get into that record. Ultimately, I came away liking only a couple of the songs but also with great respect for the band's creativity. It was an unusual combination of feelings.

For me, 'Dear Science' resolves that conflict. There is no sacrifice in imagination or creativity and the songs have a more accessible style which peaks in track two, 'Crying'. However, there is no lack of dark sentiment here, both musically and lyrically. In particular, 'Halfway Home' and 'Family Tree' two of the record's highlights, generate a feeling of weird dread and disturbance due to the ideas and pictures they suggest but never fully reveal.

amazon.com kept putting this band in my recommended section, so i bought it. then i wondered if i was going insane or whether the dude's english was just really bad. he was speaking icelandic! what the hell? i need to have an idea what the heck they are saying, without having to learn some obscure new language. it is also a little too soft for my taste. i mean, the band has some neat arrangements, obviously they have talent, but the foreign language and too soft tone makes it hard for me to say i really love it.

Essentially this video captures a lot of what goes through the hearts and minds of the band members who comprise Sigur Ros. You tour different regions, landscapes, towns, and facets of Icelandic culture as the band speaks to you. At every stop and in between these moments where the bandmembers share their thoughts the band plays a set and you get to experience some of the songs from these sets.

Pretty much a must for a fan and a good recommendation for some of the artistically minded individuals for a watch.

I actually bought "Return From Cookie Mountain" about a year ago, and at the time I was not sure what to make of it.. I enjoyed the material, but I found the album to be generally lacking in emotional content. I sung along, but was also confounded by its mezzo-forte studio-phonic aesthetic. At the time, I intended to write a perfectly apathetic review, expressing my confusion about the fact that I did not like it that much, but I did not hate it either.

BUT ...usually.... this kind of internal dialogue indicates I have a great album that I just don't "get" yet. Why are many of my favorite albums ones that I had to come back to? This album is simply one of the 5 best albums of the year. Imagine Wilco fronted by Sgt Pepper's-era Lennon with a healthy dash of Radiohead. Just get it already.

I've been recommended this band by more sources than I can count, based on my deep affection toward Radiohead, Bjork, and others of the experimental variety. I had already heard the somewhat overdone but unquestionably dramatic "Saeglopur," and despite some decidedly odd vocals, I liked it. My hope was that these on-the-edge-of-hearing vocals might mellow out in some slightly more earthly tracks. No such luck.

Doubtless all those who have given this rave 5-star reviews will think this reviewer biased and close-minded. Thankfully, this is not the case. As a DJ and as an avid explorer of the experimental, I love dipping my I-pod into the sea of the unknown, finding bands none of my friends have even heard of and slowly expanding my diverse collection. I discovered Girl Talk after stumbled across his remix of a Bonde Du Role song. There's 250 samples from 167 artists on the album. This is what happens when an engineering student discovers drugs. Play this album in your car and watch your friends ask, "hey, what is that?" Play it in a club and get everyone dancing. Sense of humor mandatory. Gregg Gillis is the mash up shiz.
