My girl wanted tickets to see Patty when she was in our town in October. So, I bought a couple of good ones and they hung on the refrigerator for a couple of months until the day of the show.

Understand that I liked Patty just fine before the show. She wasn't Emmylou, but good, good, good. I didn't even know about "Sleepless Nights" when we walked through the doors of the Carolina Theater. "That's All it Took" lived up to it's name and more. I kept hearing these fine old songs and kept thinking "Where did this come from?"

No kidding, we went home from the show, turned on the computer and downloaded the record. Burned it, put it in the car, and listened to it for THREE WEEKS straight. It's true. Every song is a gem. ... Read More:

George Jones is country music. This CD is George at his best. The duet with his daughter (and Tammy Wynette's daughter) is amazing. Her voice is much like her mother's and when she and George sing together it's magic. She is a great talent. And the rest of the duets are great with great artists. If your a George Jones fan, this Cd is a must. I saw him live just a few years ago in a small venue in Spokane, WA, and his voice is was "smooth as whiskey" and true to the songs that we all love. I love many of today's country artists, but some of their songs sound so generic, no originality and soul. I know there are writers out there with songs that should be heard through these amazing voices, but I'm not hearing many of those. I love a wide ... Read More:

Couldn't agree more with the other review. Although I'm bummed that it's nothing more than the first three albums in a metal tin, its also is nice to have a unique holder for them and as stated earlier, it's nice to replace those old beat up cds that have been played to death. I wish that I was just starting to like Hank cuz it would be awsome to grab all three albums at once rather than shelling out 40 or 50 bucks for the three on their own. So pick it up if you are a new fan or an old grizzled vet like me. Look for the new album at the end of October as well.

I happened to see Billy Bob and the Boxmasters being interviewed on a morning San Antonio TV show. I am a big movie fan of his and the show was at a small venue, the Scout Bar, and somehow I managed to persuade my husband to go with me. We both loved it and I bought their CD during intermission between the 2 sets. You could tell that Billy Bob really loved what he was doing and every band member was awesome. Now my husband is a die-hard SRV fan, and we have been to a lot of concerts, but this one remains at the top for me. Sadly, the cd is not getting the play and coverage it deserves, and I still get the raised eyebrows and weird looks when I talk about the cd, but you have to hear them to believe it. This is Dolly Parton's first true mainstream release in 17 years and also her first disc on her own label. All I can say is BRAVO !!! This set will definitely please her diehard fans and surely gain her some new ones. Her vocal performance here is top notch and she puts her heart and soul in each track. This is certainly not an artist resting on her laurels. It shows why she is the Queen of Country.

There are pure country tracks, some pop country and some remakes as well. The cd gets a great uplift with the life affirming, toe tapping tracks BETTER GET TO LIVIN and JESUS @ GRAVITY. If you are into Americana and music this is a MUST BUY. The guy had so much soul and the band plays like the all-stars they are. You want to talk about a pocket? This rhythm section has a pocket that is relentless. Hank is transcendent and the lead and slide guitars and fiddles are spectacular. It does not get better than this.

I've always heard about Ry Cooder's sterling credentials as a musican. It's just that I had the impression that most of his stuff was on the goofy side. But, since he is one of the top slide guitar players, I wanted something from him in our collection. To my surprise this is a great album and the thing that I really like about it (besides the excellent instrumentation) is that the lyrics are so entertaining. Instead of a disc to be played a couple times and put on the shelf, this is one to be played over and over and over again.

Sure, the songs don't age well, but they were never meant to. This is a period piece and should be appreciated as such. It's beautiful '70s country orchestra craftsmanship and great spoken-word lyrics with awesome comic timing. Extra points for songs that were so prescient about environmentalism and the disappearance of open space, like "There Won't Be No Country Music", though WOLF CREEK PASS's "Old 30" and "Glenwood Canyon" hit that note even better -- just part of the reason it's such a shame that album's out of print/unavailable on CD. I grew up on WCP and still have it on tape. It's his first album and for my money it's still the best -- stark & evocative, far less slick & repetitive than a lot of these post-Convoy songs, which get bogged down fast in novelty ... Read More:
