Play by Brad Paisley is a departure from his other CDs. Although his other CDs have featured his strong guitar playing and sounds instrumentals, this entire CD is a guitar playing showcase. The very few songs that feature vocals are still secondary to the outstanding guitar playing, and that is just the point with this CD. Brad Paisley is an incredibly talented artist, and he gets to show off these talents with a few of his colleagues.
This is an outstanding effort from Brad Paisley. The only downside to the CD is that there are not 10+ great songs featuring vocals. That's okay though, because the other Brad Paisley CDs beg repeated listenings. If you are a new fan, don't miss out on these other great CDs:

I've always heard about Ry Cooder's sterling credentials as a musican. It's just that I had the impression that most of his stuff was on the goofy side. But, since he is one of the top slide guitar players, I wanted something from him in our collection. To my surprise this is a great album and the thing that I really like about it (besides the excellent instrumentation) is that the lyrics are so entertaining. Instead of a disc to be played a couple times and put on the shelf, this is one to be played over and over and over again.

A very talented singer, but why not chose some upbeat songs. My woman left me and I am heartbroken gets a little tiresome after 13 songs.

I love the movie, don't get me wrong, but the music is not the George Strait who was always so true to his western swing and honkytonk roots. Tony Brown took every Strait album afterward and did the same thing; taking away from the crooner's extreme vocal talent, and inserting mainstream sound (via posers like Garth Brooks, and later - Tim McGraw). I still love George's songs, but I prefer music from "Strait Country" until "Holding my Own".
Oh, by the way, George Strait and Alan Jackson's duet "Murder on Music Row" should have included Tony Brown's ... Read More:

This album was worth it for just the first two songs! I Know What I Want For Christmas and Old Time Christmas. And the 3rd. And 4th. And...
Johnny Mathis has serious competition for best Christmas songs.
