Here's the review from 365 MAg: "Turntablist, musician and producer DJ Rupture is set to release a new mix album Uproot in October. Famously performing live sets with three turntables, with acapellas breaks and noise on each separate one. His latest offering is his first release in seven years having recently returned to his hometown Brooklyn after as many years living in Spain.
This new mix album finds Rupture in fine form, seamlessly combining elements of Dubstep, Dancehall, Berlin Abstraction and Crunk. It builds upon the fast and dense music of previous works such as Gold Teeth and Minesweeper Suite, but with more contemplation and a reflection generated..

Just a Souvenir

I have considered Squarepusher to be one the more exciting and interesting things going on in music this past decade. I was also happy to come across an LP version of this album which includes a very cool poster with a very cool and far out essay by Square himself.

But alas...the great possibilities of this album are not realized. I see some other reviewers liked it but I thought it totally sucked. It sounds like [...] Surfers meets King Crimson micro waved with a thin slice of weak house music sounds. It has Sqaurepusher's sense of humor and I also admire artists that try new things and try to surprise their audience but I didn't like this at all. Some of it even sounds like a crappy Black Sabbath sample looping. Awful.

Verve Remixed, Vol. 4

Don't do it! I absolutely loved the first three verve remixed cds and have been enjoying them for years. The first opened my eyes to a whole new way to listen to jazz and even directed my classic jazz collection's growth. Since then, I've been quick to pick up each newest iteration and have been wowed by the cool tracks on the first three. This one, however MIGHT have one track worthy of sharing. I am totally disappointed.

This CD is dope. Lets face it, not all the tracks are great, but what CD did you buy in the last decade that had all great tracks. The ratio of good to bad is high; and on the scale of evil, this one carries much weight. High energy, dark, and exactly what I would expect from someone like the Deez.
I'm not sure about it giving me the courage to cut my own leg off, but I would definitely suggest this CD to any Dark DNB fan. Not one of these ill informed band wagoners.

Plus, DSL is an effin pioneer. If you can't respect that then you're a tool anyway.

Having a body of work as diverse as Richard D. James sets up a lot of unreasonable expectations for fans and critics. From his early work in the late eighties through his four albums recorded under the name "Aphex Twin" and countless other recordings under other names, RDJ has blazed trails and created many unique styles that characterize him. Through those four studio albums, RDJ pioneered and arguably perfected the genres of IDM, ambiance, orchestral electro horror, jungle, drill `n bass, synth pop, and more. The expectation for a new Aphex Album, especially one after a long hiatus and one to lead off the new millennium, were surely extravagant and overblown. What will James concoct next, and how will it shake the musical world?

Richard D. James Album

As indicated by the running times above, this album is relatively brief, such that it could almost be considered an EP -- the best stuff is found when Aphex Twin mixes frenetic beats with lush melodies. The paragon of that is "Girl/Boy Song", fusing pizzicato strings with crisp, yet at-times sloppy drumwork. Snares flail and assail as the string bite back, harmonic development pulling you in deeper (as opposed to the same thing repeating over and over, which is a common failing with this kind of experimental music).

"4" has a delightful, Oriental steppishness to it, with an overall mood that sounds fast and slow at the same time -- RDJ, when he gets it right, is a temporal master of controlling mood through precise sound selection and arrangement.

This is a melancolic and dark album, I really like it, but is not easy listening, I think is great for days when you feel blue. I really like it, because is soft music, and I like that.

I was ambivalent towards this album when I first gave it the once over. To my ear it seemed sonically dispersed, sort of 'all over the place' and 'busy.' But I never, ever dismiss an album after one spin, unless it's glaringly obvious garbage- and on the second, third and so forth runs, the album as a WHOLE began to make sense. One minute it's playing in the background, as some album always is, and the next I was just flooded and floored with a DAMN-that's-good-!@#$ sort of epiphany. The exotic time signatures pounded by wall 'o sound percussion, the deliberate, ominously simple bass, the myriad of bizarre textures soaring over that juicy slaughter of rhythms... Wow. Everything on this album just works even where it sounded disjointed to the virgin ear.
