Annie certainly has a wonderful voice, her genre is not my usual venue, but there is no denying her singing "Why" is one of those songs that becomes timeless, it just flows and wraps itself around you as you listen. All it took was one listen while fiddling around on the radio one day and I had to seek that tune out. Beautiful. Kudos Annie. Thanks.

I definitely recommend the CD... great music but the seller make sure they are 100% clear with you. It has one scratch on it so it skips on one song. Although i did not pay much, i still would have liked to receive a CD that plays properly!

I have always been a fan of Etta James but this has got to be one of the best CDs I've ever purchased. Many CDs have a few great songs and then some you'd just as soon skip over. Not so on this one ! Each and every one is the Lady at her best. Definitely a great one !

I confess, I was never part of the civil rights movement, but Mavis gives us a living, breathing account of those times. This album perfectly conveys that message. But I think what so defines this music is that the themes are so universal. Injustice, prejudice, bigotry is wrong, whether you are living in Mississippi or in some other part of the world, we are all God's children and we must take a stand against it.

Genius Loves Company

This album has a collection of the blues' genius with other great talents; and lovely performances with Norah Jones, James Taylor, Willie Nelson, B.B. King, Van Morrison. My favorites are: "sorry seems to be the hardest word" with Elton John, and" Do I ever cross your mind" with Bonnie Raitt.

A great album that can only be enhanced by listening to another wonderful collection: Ray Charles & friends

Talking Timbuktu

As a fan of the Tuareg group "Tinariwen', I couldn't resist buying this CD when I saw that another famous native of their region hooked up with Ry Cooder. If you've ever listened to Ry's soundtrack works or his wonderful stuff on 'A Meeting by the River' or "The Buena Vista Social Club' then you'll know why he is such a great match for a veteran like Mr. Toure. Ry's son , Joachim, is a good addition with his drum work too!

Both of these men share a love of guitar music and it shows in every track of this CD. Similar to the effect generated with listening to 'Tinariwen', Talking Timbuktu transports me to the barren- but beautiful- expanses of the Saharan regions. The Essential Daryl Hall & John Oates

There have been countless Hall and Oates compilations released over the years and none of them have been as extensive as this one. Some came close but would skip over the early years and miss key tracks like "She's Gone". This particular track is my personal favourite, and you cannot beat the original album version included here. I believe Hall and Oates re-recorded it in the late 70's or early 80's into a shorter mix.

This compilation is digitally remastered and includes album tracks and every single, except for "OOh Yeah" and the medley from "Live at the Appollo" ("My Girl"?). this was a surprise album for me. i still listen to it. when i first heard a song on the radio i didn't realize that she was white. her voice is very strong, it's been in heavy rotation with me ever since. i have her other two albums and they are just as good.
