I'm a beginner and for me this DVD is hard to follow now matter how many times I watch it, there are things that I can't understand when he talks about steps and stuff. I'll keep it maybe one day I'll have enough background to understand it.

I can't remember the last time that I instantly liked a new CD. Davey Knowles writes, sings, and plays British blues evocative of the Yardbirds and Clapton, while imprinting his own original stamp on each track. His solos are succinct, enhancing each song as opposed to being filler or needlessly prolonging the effort. And man, what a voice!

About 37 years ago this guy could play the hell out of a guitar. But ever since 'I SHOT THE SHERIFF', it seems that maybe he was hit in the head by a van or a bus. It is an opinion that some people do not prefer his song writing. It is a fact that he is no longer the same guitar player. I have heard the same statement time and time again from fans of his latter material. It goes something like this: Well Clapton was tired of being labled God and sick of the guitar hero questions. He was tired of dealing with fans who were obsessed with THE YARDBIRDS AND CREAM. So he found a new style of music to sit easy with. Music that sounded like THE BAND. He took on a singer songwriter role. After all, do you read the same books you read when you were 30 ... Read More:

I've had an ear out for Everlast ever since his House of Pain days. The Whitey Ford album was a good look for him. This record goes in another direction but works none the less. He starts off with a compelling first track "Kill the Emperor", "lets stop the War and feed the poor kill the emperor". The 2nd cut "Folson Prison Blues", is reminiscent of the House of pain days.
My favorite songs are (6) "Friend" which is the most introspective song and strikes the chord of emphatic truth, "Lovers come and go but right now I need a friend". The (13) track "Weakness" is vintage country blues and another favorite of mine. The beat and rythm of (14) "Dirty" makes it hot, track (4) "Anyone" is solid also. The final track (17) "Saving Grace" I think ... Read More:

This is an outstanding archival history of down-south backwoods blues, containing performances by legendary blues musicians, along with collaborations with Kennny Wayne Sheperd, Chris Layton and Tommmy Shannon
(both from Stevie Ray Vaunghn's "Double Trouble"). This is a 5 star classic blues documentary and performance DVD. It was named DVD of the year 2007, by the Blues Foundation in Memphis, TN. The performances were filmed throughout the south, on site at homes, front yards, BBQ's, a church and even a cemetary. The DVD was produced by Jerry Harrison, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and former member of the "Talking Heads".
It begins in New Orleans, with a performance of "Tina Marie" with Bryan Lee, and then a performance ... Read More:

I am a casual fan of the duo. I started looking for a compilation of their greatest hits and came upon "The Very Best Of Daryl Hall & John Oates". I thought great. Then I started looking at the tracks for my all time favorite "She's Gone". It was no where to be found on this compiliation. What? Are you kidding me; no "She's Gone" on "The Very Best of Daryl and John Oates". That song is arguably their greatest hit. Omitting it from the collection is a major infraction. As such this compiliation is not worth two cents to me.

These guys are a great band with a range of musical styles. One of the reasons I wasn't blown away by this outing is it is mostly a "blue-eyed soul"/R&B set, unlike their other stuff which is more wide ranging. I love the inspirations behind this sound: the late 60's early 70's sound that had a fat horn sound, background singers who step in to hit chorus with a wavering note, organ lead-ins, and funkified twangy guitar. But in a lot of places he moves past that period to something closer to the later 70's where it was losing its edge. Think of the difference between early Sly Stone, Dobie Grey, or Al Green and their later stuff -- it became over produced, the horns became trite vs insipired, the background vocals headed toward soft rock. On this dics you get the gamut. ... Read More:
