With each new album that Jars of Clay has released I have always found myself quite pleased with the results. For the first time this is not the case. I was quite disappointed with this release.

I believe most, if not all, of this disappointment came from an expectation that Jars would use their talents to create new contemporary takes on classic carols. What I found was a collection of carols so changed from the originals that with out the familiar lyrics I would of had no idea that these were well known Christmas carols that I had heard throughout my life.

The Beautiful Letdown

Every song on this is wonderful. So much so that my wife and daughter are going to use "This is Your Life" as a lyrical dance number for their dance troupe they currently take at a dance company. The Christian radio station I listen to still plays "Dare You To Move" so I guess recordings since that CD haven't been up to par with The Beautiful Letdown. My only criticism is that the lyrics could be more specific to Jesus as they are a Christian band but they are appealing to a wider audience.

Brian has made many wonderful accomplishments in his life, but it seems this album is not one of them. I have tried really hard to like it, but alas, I cannot.

I hate to say it, but unlike some of the cool eerie effects he has conveyed in the past, this music is just horrendous. Making a few exceptions (eg Home, Shake perhaps) it is essentially boring, flaccid, and dull. Similarly, the lyrics are pathetically cheap and "cheesy" (as one reviewer put it); I thought Jonathan Davis's lyrics were bad, but this sounds even more like something I wrote at age 14. Southern Hospitality

I first encountered Disciple at a concert in support of the Scars Remain album. I was immediately impressed with lead singer Kevin Young's energy, intensity and Christian faith. Their Spirit and Scripture filled lyrics got my attention, and they immediately became one of my favorite Christian bands. I thought Scars Remain was a pretty flawless effort. However, I have to give that kudo to Southern Hospitality.

It has a bit of Southern flavor and enough amazing guitar work to appeal to an old 80s headbanger like myself to make his ears rejoice. Lyrically wonderful, musically awesome, it's just one tight package of holy headbanging energy. One Life

This is the first Christian CD i have ever purchased, and i absolutely love this CD. If it wasn't for my fellow shipmates in helping find Christ again, I pry would have never found him, and fell in love this music. I'm getting ready to buy thier 1st CD. Praise the Lord for he is great, and will protect us as long as we trust in him.

Lifeline

There has been some undeserved critisism thrown at Neal's latest album "Lifeline" lately. True it's not as progressive as Sola Scriptura, Neal's last studio album. But who cares, Lifeline is an emotional declaration of Neal's Christian faith, delivered in a heartfelt and truly rocking way! Sure it may be a little lighter than Sola and more song-oriented but the progressive elements are still quite evident throughout. This is especially true in songs like "So Many Roads" and the title track. There a certain 70's Styx meets Kansas vibe throughout the album with elements of Rush and early Dream Theater thrown in for good measure.

The production is top notch and Mike Portnoy's drumming is phenomenal as usual. Neal handles all the guitar ... Read More:

John P Kee & VIP Mass Choir is on point once again. I find 'FAVOR' in this cd. Carol Thomas sings like no tomorrow on "WINNER" (what a positive title) Ernest Pugh, Jason Nelson and Lejuene Thompson adds so much to this Live effort. Another winner added to my John P Kee collection.

To Know That You're Alive

I saw the cover of this album and liked the artwork and then sampled a few tracks. I loved a number of them and thought I'd buy the album. I can truly say I got more than I bargained for with this purchase. I really love the orchestral ballads (Dying To Become), the smooth songs and the harder hitting songs. This is my first Kutless album but I will definitely get their next one. I wanted a hardcore album but I found that I appreciated the great balance of alternative and hard rock themes and lyrics used in this album. Truly an excellent album.

...which is saying a lot. I listen to music all the time, having been raised by parents who were both trained musicians, and while I sometimes have to be "in the mood" to listen to most of even my favourite recordings, this one seldom fails to inspire me.
