I love Fernando's rhythms and piano accompaniments to these old Christmas favorites because they make you really listen to them again. In the first song, the words, "born to reign in us forever" stood out to me. I got it for my birthday on Nov. 3 and I'm glad I started listening to it already. The cello parts are also outstanding!

I do not need to add much more to what has already been said, except this: I am not a country music fan whatsoever, but I love this CD! Alan sings with a humility that is not always found on other hymn collections. Sometimes it seems as if other perfomers want to "show off" their vocal skills and so the message of the song takes second place. It's not that way with Alan. You can actually sing along with him and the words of the song take precedence. It is a keeper!

I actually would like to rate this album 4.5 stars. It's not perfect, but its highs pull it towards 5 stars more than its lows pull it towards four stars.

I often think that artists tread upon dangerous ground when they alter the melodies of all-time favorite hymns and carols. Sometimes it works (see Fernando Ortega), often it doesn't. Sara Groves alters the melodies of several standard carols on this album, and I have to say, the results are fabulous. They are actually the strength of the album in my opinion. In particular I found "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" and "Angels We Have Heard on High" to be excellent renditions that I am excited to add to my Christmas music rotation.

If you're looking for some nice Christmas music this holiday, you've found it here. I wish it would have included a bonus cd of rock versions of these songs in the vein of their version of 'O Holy Night' that is on a different compilation, but that's ok this is still great!

Lacrae's hard-hitting lyrics are strong enough to keep your attention, while the beats are just as tight as 106 and Park's top 10. The CD offers a variety of songs that discuss a plethora of topics so it's just not a spun "get your life right" sermon every track. For example, "The Bride" covers the controversial history of the church, and it's role in American society. Other subjects covered are, religious persecution in China, the media, and alcohol abuse.
I did not like Gospel music before I heard this CD.
I borrowed this CD from a friend and ripped the tracks onto my computer. But after I listened to it, I loved it so much, I went and bought the CD.

I totally enjoyed the dvd, especially the song "healing" it moved me so much!! I wanted to know more about the writer/artist and how he was doing. I was so sad to learn that he lied about the cancer, it ruined the song for me, ruined the dvd, I can't watch it - I know people say, look beyond it, forgive him - no problem - he didn't SIN against me, no need for my forgiveness... I am not mad at him.

The issue is that watching the dvd lost the integrity (whole-ness) of the worship experience (when they, behind the scenes, put so much emphasis on the song and the writer "this is the most genuine our church has worshiped" or words to that effect - Darlene says) just seeing the people respond, so sincerely throughout the "concert" makes me ... Simply an amazing night of music caught on tape. Small club but a HUGE sound. Mavis and background singers in tiptop form. Holmstrom, Hodges and Turmes crankin' out the TONE.

From Hodges backwards grooves and percussion to Holmstrom and Turmes TONE and then over to Mavis's stories. This record is a MUST HAVE in my book. My current favorite band does not disappoint here.

A+++ sound quality for a live record too! Don't wait, if you are a fan of anyone on this record, a fan of Mavis's, a fan of DEEP SOUL....do yourself a favor and pick this cd up.
