And so, this is music at times invigorating, at times relaxing, but at all times captivating and thought provoking.

Good to dance to, drink and read to, make love to and eat to and meditate on. All around nice and very creative. Highly recommended.

Having just listened to Mushroom Jazz 6 for the first time, I can tell even from this first listen that this is probably going to become my favorite Mushroom Jazz album of the series.

Without a doubt, this is the volume that really emphasizes the "Jazz" part of its name. With a smooth, groovy and swinging vibe throughout, Mushroom Jazz 6 takes the listener on a wonderfully trippy tour of the jazzy side of Mark Farina's dope downtempo beats. My toe has been tapping and my head has been bobbing to the beat throughout, which is what it's all about, right??

Highly recommended. If you're familiar with the series, just buy it and be prepared to enjoy the sonic trip...

This may not be what you expect. So check out their myspace page to preview a few tracks from this disk...

The unifying sound here harkens back to the mid-seventies--lush strings and horns, energetic beats, itchy guitars, soulful harmonies and soaring lead vocals. Some may feel that this more closely resembles Gnarls Barkley than previous Jazzanova disks, but this album could have come from no one else. A sensitive ear will recognize the Jazzanova sound buried deep within the mix. But this album isn't so much about the Jazzanova sound. It's about the songs. And the songs are wonderful--with terrific performances and fine writing.

Hard to believe it's been twenty five years since Cyndi Lauper burst onto the scene with "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". Even harder to believe her career trajectory, especially considering another young singer who surfaced around that time(and was considered even more of a flash in the pan than Lauper) went on to become the most successful female artist of all time. Yep, while Madonna went on to basically conquer the pop world, Lauper(a far more gifted vocalist) went on to release so-so albums(uh A NIGHT TO REMEMBER, "I Drove All Night" and "Heading West" notwithstanding) and act in REALLY bad movies (VIBES anyone? The best album I heard this year!!!
Better than the others. So, this is really mature, simple, elegant, it beats modern and particular...sounds good...the perfect album!!!

I discovered Girl Talk after stumbled across his remix of a Bonde Du Role song. There's 250 samples from 167 artists on the album. This is what happens when an engineering student discovers drugs. Play this album in your car and watch your friends ask, "hey, what is that?" Play it in a club and get everyone dancing. Sense of humor mandatory. Gregg Gillis is the mash up shiz.

Duran-Duran is the greatest!!! This cd is magnificent!! I thought I'd heard most of their songs, yet I found a few on here I had no idea of.

I really love "Serious"...such a relaxing song. Also "Skin Trade" rawks. And of course the old classics "Rio", "View to a Kill" and "Save a Prayer" are fitting for any occasion.

Definately an needed add to any D-D fan or avid 80's music fan such as myself!

In Ghost Colours

I was at a friend's place a few weeks ago and the TV was tuned to a dance music channel when this crackling Dance number came on. I took note of the song title, "Hearts on fire" as well as the act, Cut Copy.

Cut Copy are an Australian trio and they sound very much like the groups that took up residence in the British top 20 singles charts in the eighties; Human League, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran et all. "In ghost colours" is apparently their sophomore album. I half expected it to be filled with dance numbers but the album is split between Dance songs and dreamy Synth Pop.

I happened to see Billy Bob and the Boxmasters being interviewed on a morning San Antonio TV show. I am a big movie fan of his and the show was at a small venue, the Scout Bar, and somehow I managed to persuade my husband to go with me. We both loved it and I bought their CD during intermission between the 2 sets. You could tell that Billy Bob really loved what he was doing and every band member was awesome. Now my husband is a die-hard SRV fan, and we have been to a lot of concerts, but this one remains at the top for me. Sadly, the cd is not getting the play and coverage it deserves, and I still get the raised eyebrows and weird looks when I talk about the cd, but you have to hear them to believe it.
