After the Hard and the Easy and a very welcome return to the salt, sea and shores of Newfoundland found in those playful and traditional style songs by the greatest band on earth, I was a little put off by my first few listens to this newest effort. The songs sound good and are well produced but I was a little bored about half way through by, what seemed to me, to be lots of the same old thing. I know it is in vogue to recycle these days, but not when it comes to music. I'm still not sure after a few more listens if this is a good album or not, but I don't hate it as much as I thought I would.
The Bad: Too many attempts at "rock" songs. "Life is Beautiful" is the only GBS cd I don't own and there is a very good reason for that. The guys ... Read More:

I had the cassette when I was a little girl... my mom said I used to go to sleep to it every night. The cassette lasted for my younger sister. 20 some odd years later I still have it, although I don't have a cassette player so since I'm expecting a little girl of my own I just had to buy this one and the rest of the series... OMG listening to the samples brings back sooooo many happy memories and I still remember all of them enough to sing along - I'm giddy! I loved these songs soooo much and I know my baby will too.

I really love these girls and the songs on this album are incredible. Even if you don't like country I think you can find something to enjoy on this album. The songs are full of hope about love and happiness and they make me happy when I listen to them. I often have to stop what I'm doing just to listen to a song. Despite what their political history is...they are amazing and incredible artists that can't be denied - give this album a chance if you want to hear some lovely tunes.

A wide variety of beautiful songs, most competently sung by a great singer, who, sadly, is no longer with us. Thanks for the music Dan. You will be sorely missed.

Before I heard this album, I viewed Dylan as over rated and I did not understand what all the fuss was about. The main song I had heard before this was rainy day women with it's horrable lyrics "everybody must get stoned".
But this album made me realize what a genius, word smith Dylan really was. Many of the songs on it are the best versions including: Don't Think Twice, Blowing in the Wind, Chimes of Freedom, Hard rain and so forth. This is a MUST have Dylan compilation and it stands as my favorite!

Well, if you don't have this do yourself a favour and buy it. The package is great with great photos from the show.
As for Dylan, he is in high spirits and most possibly stoned out of his mind as he laughs, shares jokes, forgets lyrics...
He is also delivering all songs passionately making this one concert a very special indeed. A mere three months later he was recording Bringing It All Back Home and by doing so he was also a new Dylan.

Hi - I am an Aussie bloke who saw the film with my girl last night and I loved it and thought it was an ok movie.
There is a piece of music in the film where they are enjoying a BBQ on the pier. An old man starts to sing with a fiddle (violin) playing as his musical backup. Is this piece of music on the original soundtrack and if not, does anybody know what it is and where I can buy it?
It was just fabulous. There was so much feeling and meaning by the old man singing the song, it made the price of the movie ticket well worth it.
Good movie - it beats the hell out of seeing 453 "4 wheel drive Hummers" exploding in a thousand pieces on 5th Avenue.
What really enoys me (and I have fallen for it many times), many original soundtracks ... Read More:

Quincy Jones already rocks my world. I have nothing but respect for him and the level of musical excellence that has always surrounded anything he put his considerable mind and talent to. But this re-imagining of Handel's Messiah from an African-American perspective is exceptional, extraordinary, unabated joy--especially in "And He Shall Purify" and "Hallelujah!" I am a middle-aged white musician/pianist/voice teacher in New York City. I got my Master's at Indiana University in voice. I was raised a Southern-Baptist even! I only offer up this information to suggest what an unlikely candidate I might be to enjoy this CD. I can't stop smiling and moving with these extraordinary performances when I put this CD on. God bless Michael O. Jackson for these vocal arrangements. ... Read More:

Frankly, the music of Sufjan Stevens is a bit too twee and precious for my everyday tastes, but I'll be the first to admit that he comes close to touching something that exists in all of us -- that innate and intangible sense of "place" and "home" the likes of which famed authors John Steinbeck and Thomas Wolfe respectively attempted to dispel and recapture. This is more than simple reportage and anecdote; it's nothing less than a youthful attempt to get one's arms around the unifying spirit of, what seems obvious to Stevens, this "nation under God" -- something for both believers and agnostics to appropriately ponder.
