Every one of her albums is better but this is a young band and getting better all the time.
If you go see them perform this same material live I think you will be suprised at how much better her singing is and how much more punch and character the songs here are.
I really feel like they maybe need to take another year and then go back and do a live album that has most of the songs on her previous albums because I don't think the albums do them justice. The production is not so hot and the band and Grace are way more polished now.
I think she's in her 20's and most of the band is young. If they keep improving like they have she will end up being one of the top 10 female rockers of all time.

Heard/saw this fine singer for the first time last night on Austin City Limits - I stopped watching The World Series game three to experience her!! Now I can't get enough of her!!!
Bought tickets to see her at the Arden, Delaware Gild Hall on Dec. 6 (2008). I can't believe the tickets were only $19.00 each!!
I haven't been this excited about an artist since Alison Krauss - and Carrie writes much of her material, too. This album showcases both her writing and vocal talents! I highly recommend it!

I love the old Jefferson Starship - Blows Against the Empire, and even other 'revolutionary' themed offerings from Paul Kantner and Grace Slick (Sunfighter, Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra), so was thrilled when I had heard they had released a 'new' old themed CD - if there were ever times that screamed for some type of protest, it's got to be the last 8 years of Republican controlled government (the Democrat controlled congress is a moot point if they can't override a veto), anyway - I thought, "cool, my sixties revolutionairies are back .... hooray". But when I got this, they just sounded old and dated. Maybe it's me, but I just didn't find what I was looking for with this CD. Is it 'revolutionary', well .... at times, but mostly, it just struck me as ... Read More:

If you only know one Janis song, 17, you are going to be blown away. ALL her songs are great. I am 47. When I put this CD in the player, my kids 8 and 12 years old, argue about which song to play first. My husband loves her too. Buy the CD and her book, Society's Child, and then go to her web site to see when she is going to be within a few hours drive so that you can see her in concert. We saw her last week, twice, and were blown away. She is not only a great musician, but also very funny and entertaining. Go to janisian.com and check out her web site. You can never have too much Janis! When you start reading her book, you won't be able to put it down. She has been to hell and back and instead of turning into a bitter woman, she just kept making beautiful music ... Read More:

Bridge over Troubled Water is just one of those albums that just feels so damn complete. One after another, this album boasts quite some variety, especiallly considering that this album is folk based. Folk based just has that natural, organic sound, and variety in that is just great. Nick Drake knew that, and it seems that Simon And Garfunkel know that as well. Plus, the music on this record is just dang good, period. Not just an acoustic guitar and a guy moaning, there is a variety of sounds in this record, and it can be very melodic. Yeah, it is catchy, but more than catchy. The melodies draw you in to Paul's Simon's pretty cool lyrics (not lyrical rocket science, but they get the job done).
The song Bridge Over Troubled Water, with it's epic piano ... Read More:

Bob Dylan is a genius, but this sh#t is sh#t. Pales in comparison to both the bootleg series concerts from 1964 and 1966. In Rolling Thunder, what's with all the shouting lyrics? Too self-indulgent with his voice and musical arrangements. Plus bland generic 70's rock-style sound from the band. Very overrated music which will not stand the test of time like his better stuff. For hardcore fans only.

I grew up with just one of Miriam Makeba's albums, the only one available at that time, simply called: Miriam Makeba. Technology has outdated the record albums, replaced with tapes and now cd's. I love this album. Reading the insert, I find that Miriam Makeba is not only the singer, but she is the choir. Every voice in the background is Miriam Makeba. Recorded and re-recorded, it must have been an amazing effort for her. This album records songs passed on from generations past. It is good to know that these South African treasures will remain, I am assuming the songs are of Zulu origin.

I have fibromyalgia and use audio-visual biofeedback for pain management. This is absolutely beautiful in its own right, but it also works well for my biofeedback. I am so thankful for having found this group and their music!
