RARITIES, B-Sides, & OTHER STUFF volume 2 is a collection of tracks either by Sarah McLachlan herself or featured her gentle vocals. A lot of the songs can be found on compilations like FOR THE CHILDREN which "The Rainbow Connection" could be found on. As a long time fan of Sarah McLachlan's music, I had to check out this sequel to her first compilation of rare tracks and b-sides. For the most part I did like the cd but there are moments that makes me cringe and wonder what was she thinking. I absolutely despised the massacre of Harry Chapin's "Cat in the Cradle" re-titled "Just Like Me" which featured rapper DMC. Horrible doesn't even cover the description. Taking a well known popular song and turning it into some dreadful rap song is proof ... Read More:

This is an absolutely incredible collection that anyone who even remotely likes Bob Dylan should own. I purchased it brand new and it came in wrapping, but it consistently skips on one song at the same place. I noticed slight gouges in the CD.

The one time my friend and I caught his live show, we were put through hours or boring chat from Mr. Mraz. People come to hear you sing Jason, not jabber on muchadoaboutnothing. I'm not sure if he was drunk, or other, but his sets were boring and it made me realize so is his music. Good voice, but learn to take it more seriously.

So now we are up to Volume 8 in the long running Bob Dylan "Bootleg" series, first started in 1991. The "Bootleg" series has focused on 1960s and 1970s recordings, but this release ventures in new territory, as it looks back on (broadly defined) the last 20 years of Bob Dylan.
When listening to "The Bootleg Series, Vol. 8. Tell Tale Signs - Rare and Unreleased 1989 - 2006" (2 CDs, 27 tracks, 138 min.), the first thing that immediately strikes your attention is that unreleased and alternate tracks from 1989's "Oh Mercy" and 1997's "Time Out of Mind" cover about half this release (13 tracks, to be precise), and simply confirm how much on the top of his game Dyland was at those times. The crowning moments for me are the 2 alternate takes of ... Read More:

I haven't liked the last couple of Dylan releases. I know the critics loved them--some of his best reviews ever---but...don't they sound different? The structures are predictable -I am not sure where the lyrics come from but most songs sound very odd to my seasoned "Dylan Ear". But this recording feels like Dylan. His voice isn't as postured and the band sounds relaxed. The first disc is Dylan at his best and the second has it's moments but... The slow blues numbers are classic and the band shines. The alternate versions of several songs show us his genius and pay attention to how he nails each take vocally. Who says he can't sing. A must for Dylan fans. I have a lingering thought that maybe the best Dylan we will hear from now on will be from alternate ... Read More:

This may be my shortest review on Amazon. I heard of the Weepies based on their input in Mandy Moore's Wild Hope, an album that I love. So it's no surprise that I've been quite pleased by Hideaway. It's a little quieter overall (thematically) than I trend toward, but it's great for chilling, listening to while working, or more introspective moments. I definitely agree with the comments about the quality of the songwriting; I'm particularly reminded of Simon & Garfunkel, only with a more modern and feminine sensibility.

More of same - luckily I like Norah Jones. I wish she'd branch out and explore different musical styles...perhaps more serious collaborations with other equally talented musicians. I'd love to be actually listenting to her rather than just having her as pleasant background music. She could do more, but I'm happy to add this latest to my collection.

I remember back in the early 80's going through the (Cut-out)section of (albums)at my local music store,if any of you are old enough to remember those.I came upon and purchased the LP Slug Line.It was my first John Hiatt record.I now have some 14 of his albums and each one is better than the other. His musical skills and experimentation continue to awe me and his writting just blows me away. The lines he comes up with are just so real and true,I ecspecially like the one about "a few less brain cells and a lot less hair".
John Hiatt is like a fine wine,he just gets better with age.

I distinctly remember both my parents and grandparents reading to me as a child. Later, when I grew up a little, I was able to read for myself. Shel Silverstein's "A light in the Attic" and "Where the Sidewalk ends" were among my favorites on the bookshelf. Many of Silverstein's poems have just the right essence of "weird" to appeal to the mind of a child and the sketches that accompany some of the poems seem to add a little punch. Many of his poems like "The little Boy and the Old Man" will remain a part of you long after you outgrow everything else.
Buy "A Light in the Attic". Buy "Where the Sidewalk Ends". Read them to your children. Encourage your children to read themselves and keep both books on your shelf for your grandchildren. You ... Read More:
