Rise Against is really going to blow up big with this release, as well they should. Through the years, their songwriting has only improved as they found the sound they were searching for. Lots of people may dismiss this album as Rise Against going "soft" or going "pop". I strongly disagree, as the lyrics and execution of the songs are much more talented and ingenious than almost anything else that could grace the airwaves this year. This album has fantastic production value and only gets better with each listen. Their updated sound has much less screaming, yet doesn't lose any of the intensity of their previous releases, and Rise Against has basically shown that no matter what approach they take, they aren't going to fade anytime soon.

Ani Difranco relocated from Buffalo to New Orleans, and this has clearly had a profound effect on her writing and musical style. And at all that (plus having become a mom) hasn't stopped Ani from continuing to be the prolific writer that she's always been. This is Ani's 18th proper studio album (never mind the many live albums and compilations).
"Red Letter Year" (12 tracks, 47 min.) brings a renewed focus from Ani. After a disappointing opening title track (yes, we get it, you don't like Bush) that is simply not interesting musically, the album kicks into gear with "Alla This", which immediately brings forward the influence of New Orleans and the Louisiana music underground. The album features plenty of horns and other brass music, and Ani ... Read More:

To the point, like has already been said, I had no idea this would be a raw footage DVD, which will require some adjusting to, especially since Budokan and Score spoiled me so thoroughly.
Also, James Labrie's singing was just...off! I totally loved Blind Faith (Six Degrees was my first DT album), but I found myself wincing every time he hit the high note in the hook. That's my main complaint really, he's great so long as he stays in the mid to low range. I'm really sorry about his throat injury from years past, but it seems like it's still plagues him. I sincerely hope he overcomes this.
Now for the good stuff: The muscianship! These guys are incredible! Right now I've just finished listening to Surrounded and the ad libs and embellishments ... Read More:

I purchased this CD without hearing anything on it based on the potential of the musicians that form this group. Their past music has always been very good and pleasant. This CD in my opinion doesn't match their past productions when it comes to the "groove factor", for a lack of a better term. Although this CD shows great musicianship and recording quality, while I was listening it began to remind me of the music I hear in the background at a restaurant. A little too mellow and uninspiring in my opinion. Maybe this is one of those CD's that grow on you over time but again I do not find it very exciting at this point. This is just my opinion of course and you my totally enjoy it upon your first listen.

Credence Clearwater Revival and John Fogerty are classic rock at its best, a mixture of blues, rock and catchy songwriting created memorable songs that still have people singing these today.
This is a good collection of many of their hits and well known songs and I put it on the CD player for my children and they now are singing along.

But the quality of Oberst's music and lyrics has gone seriously down hill the past few years. Not to say this is an absolutely horrible album, but the guy is clearly capable of better than is delievered here.

Alright, I can't STAND country; it makes my ears bleed, but my mother's a fan of this guy, so this CD made a great gift. 35 songs for $10 is a deal if I ever saw one.
