Sugarland keeps getting better and better. Jennifer is now my favorite country singer and writer too. I never knew just how talented she is until NOW. This is a MUST buy for all country fans and others too. She has the voice of an angel that I can listen to over and over. I missed their last tour, BUT will NOT miss the next one. Friends of mine say they were GREAT in person. I can't wait for the next CD or tour.

Listen to this CD if you want your spirits raised. Both Willie and Win are just tremendous musicians - while neither really sings, their timing when speaking their words is second to none, and really complements the beat. I deal with a lot of foreigners every day, and most of them think Dixieland is THE American form of jazz - this CD is an outstanding contribution to recordings of the blues, of jazz and dixieland. Everyone for whom I have played it wants their own copy!

Once again I feel compelled to comment on Emmylou's music. When I first saw this disk I read various reviews here whining that this album is a "downer" and the like. I smiled to myself and bought it without a second thought. I would have bought it no matter what the reviews said. Yes, Emmylou sings about pain, but she also sings about redemption and perseverance, the dawn that follows the darkness. Anyway, what price do you put on music that brings tears to your eyes?

But I am writing just to comment on one track from this disk. "All That You Have Is Your Soul", a song that did not grab me when I heard the author's version two decades ago, is rescued here and made Emmylou's own. The song includes the lines: "hunger only for a taste of ... Read More:

Yes, very nice voice. Nice melodies/sound and a good quality recording. The problem in my opinion is the lyrics extremely simplistic. I have a problem with lyrics which have simplistic rhymes and speak in narrative, with no poetic or interpretive aspects. I can enjoy the music as background if I don't listen to the words - which for me is not easy. With better writing I think she could be huge (or at least more popular than she is)

I'm going to take a different approach to reviewing albums on Amazon. Instead of going in depth on each album and describe each album in detail, i'm going to simply rate each album with how many stars I feel each album is worth based on the below criteria. I hope this helps you make a better decision on purchasing this album with a simple individual rating. If it doesn't help read another review.
5 stars- Classic, Album goes beyond description, Perfect in every way, Could remind you of a certain time or place, Lifetime replay value.
4.5 stars- Near Classic, Incredible album, Maybe only one song that is skippable or just overall doesn't quite deserve classic status. High replay value.

I love Jason Mraz. What a cool style he does. Really makes you want to just chill out and enjoy life while listening to him. He has a really pleasant voice and just a fabulous overall sound and rhythm.

As the mother of the kids listening to this album, it's pretty benign--it's not annoying or repetitive--something that parents can actually stand to listen to in the car. My three girls, 4, 6, and 9, are bananas over it.

Stylistically, this new Verve album carries on where "Urban Hymns" left off. Much like "Urban Hymns", the material here is clearly more song-oriented as opposed to the more jam-based, psychedelic phase of the "Storm In Heaven" LP era. I think newer Verve fans who first became aware of the band through songs like "Bittersweet Symphony" and "Lucky Man" (both on the Urban Hymns LP) will find much to be pleased with on this new album.

The first single from the album "Love Is Noise" has an uptempo groove with a catchy repeated "Ooh-Ooh, Ah-Ah" refrain that has a sing-a-long quality to it. "Valium Skies", "Rather Be", "I See Houses" and "Appalachian Springs" are nice string-laden ballads following the same formula of "Lucky Man" or "Space And Time" (both from the ... Read More:
