I came across this CD with mixed expectations. I thought their album before would be hard to top so I wasn't really expecting KRYPTONITE to be that great. I was wrong. This CD is awesome and is a muct have for anybody who enjoys pure melodic punk. Hopefully one day these guys will get out into the publics eye.

An instant classic in 1985 ansd sounding better with each passing year, Fear and Whiskey is improved in this CD reissue by the dynamite EPs which followed it. However, one imperfection: a ludicrous cut called "Mr. Confess" by a different edition of the band than that which appears on all the other cuts. And they dropped a killer of cover of Merle Haggard's "I Can't Hold Myself in Line" for that? Oh, well, call it an imperfect reissue of a perfect album. But buy it!!

This is a really good album with artists doing Gram Parsons' work better than he could do it himself. Not that Gram Parsons was a bad performer --but the diversity of talent performing this material is truly outstanding. OK....it's not for the purists but it will appeal to those who really like Gram Parson's music and it is a fitting tribute to an artist who was lost before his full potential was realized.

Due to its relative rareness and its inability to stay in print, here's a record that you'll probably never hear. If you're unfamiliar with American Music Club, this isn't necessarily the best means of introduction anyway, but it still has its moments, and it qualifies as a reasonably solid first album. The Restless Stranger sounds exactly as you might imagine a San Francisco-based band to sound in the mid-eighties, full of angular, wrenching arrangements and analytical, self-deprecating lyrics that are more than a step or two removed from the mainstream. It also displays the diversity of the band's range, veering from the melancholy sadness of "Room Above the Club" and "Away Down My Street" to the wrenching catharsis of "$1,000,000 Song" and "Mr. Lucky." ... No really this is one of those brilliant efforts that is hard for people to know about unless you are into one of the many genres that Pearls and Brass have on the menu. A very well integrated and crafted piece, served with vitality and energy and force. Only a few bands can sling such a big sound so naturally. Springing from classic rock and blues idioms, but striding across many subsequent ideas in a single bound, this band should appeal to a really wide audience. More talented, more concentrated, and more entertaining than most records you will come across.
And if you can see them live, do; normally they are ten feet tall and breathe fire.

I've been following the antics and musical journeys of Toronto's Sadies since early 2000 when I first saw them live in concert at the now defunct Ted's Wrecking Yard. In reviewing that show back in April 2000, I described the live sonic blast that The Sadies delivered as "sounding like Johnny Cash on speed...oh, wait, Johnny Cash was on speed." Disc One of The Sadies In Concert Volume One, lives up to my recollections of their very best live shows, as they romp ferociously through as many as two dozen songs in a set. The experience leaves you breathless, and if you're standing right up front at the stage, you can partake of punk waltzing...even if you can't dance! Disc One is an excellent set of Sadies tunes that span their now nearly nine year career as purveryors ... Read More:
