A lot of the performances are horrid, some of the arrangements are insipid. There ended up being about 30 tunes and songs here that were of interest--and over 100 that I'll never listen to again. In many ways, it's a beautifully packaged vanity project of limited interest musically.

The CD, The Color of Light by Dana Cunningham is very difficult to find in stores. Maybe that is because it is difficult to characterize. The music has a classically inspired, new age orientation. Beyond the ambient chill of most new age pianist though, Dana performs a number of ballads that weave from one to the next. Accompanied by simple and yet ample background, the sound is rich and fulfilling.

Although I've seen other CDs by this artist, the track "Flying over Water" caught my attention and had me searching to find this CD. It is both haunting and soothing. The rest of the CD does not disappoint. I highly recommend it for your listening pleasure.

This box set is a gem, just terrific. The second disc has two songs which I don't like, the third has one, but all the rest are great. The wonderful, ageless music here has really opened up my ears to the meaning of folk. And I wasn't even born when the set was recorded.

This box set is a gem, just terrific. The second disc has two songs which I don't like, the third has one, but all the rest are great. The wonderful, ageless music here has really opened up my ears to the meaning of folk. And I wasn't even born when the set was recorded.

The Guard Years

Obviously quite expensive--BUT exhaustive collection. If you are a fan of the Guard years you couldn't ask for more...ya you could but as much as we wish--this is all there is. It goes without saying these guys were the best vocal, harmony group of all time. And I know the Beach Boys, CSNY, are fantastic as well--but the nostalgia factor is what does it for me. This music was made in what I would call Americas Golden years (post Korea through the Kennedy yrs). After 11/22/63 the country just started spinning into a loud, cynical, violent ten year period that made the KT seem corny and instantly out dated. But when I hear these tracks now I treasure them more than ever...and long for a time that will never be again.

You Can Teach Yourself Banjo is wonderful, especially if you have the book, cd, and dvd. the dvd only covers half of the lessons, so eventually i bought the cd as well. both require the book. I also like Bluegrass Banjo for the Complete Ignoramus, which has a much different approach, but fun. The combination of having audio or video to compliment the books is what makes these work, so you can play along and hear what it's supposed to sound like.
