As a Sony Mini-DV owner, I chose to purchase the Sony branded tapes. While I am not typically a brand-sensitive person, I have read some reviews that state that you should stick with the same brands when it comes to magentic media such as tape. In addition, you probably should not switch from one brand to another after significant use because of the lubricants that the differnet manufacturers use. That said, I am interested in trying Sony's HD Mini-DV tapes, even though my camer is not an HD model. Since both tapes are Sony, I thjink the switch would be ok.

It wasn't easy finding a white, 3 foot USB extension to match my iMac keyboard. This one is perfect, it's somewhat heavy duty (compared to the cable running from the keyboard). Just right when you need a little extra cable length, but don't want excessive wires cluttering up your space.

I tried other brands and they are costers now, Verbatim are the best. I would recommand durning at a slower speed for best results.

Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo Recorder

I was interested in a recorder to do interviews in the field and was entirely unsatisfied with other smaller and less expensive recorders manufactured by Olympus and Sony. Then I came across reviews for the Zoom H2.

The Zoom H2 was of interest because the online reviews indicated it was a good recorder for musicians. I'd found the other recorders I'd tried resulted in tinny voice tones, not fully recording voices in lower ranges. It was my hope that the Zoom H2 would do as well for voice interviews as for music.

I bought the Memorex dual layer discs despite the spate of negative reviews simply because the price of the next cheapest brand was prohibitive. At first I was really upset with the discs. As I tried to burn DVDs I got error message after error message telling me that there had been a media error. I happily sat all these discs off to one side. Eventually, after about 15 successfully burned discs, I had a stack of 10 failures. But then I started trying to use these discs on future burns, and I eventually was able to successfully use all of them.

I felt risky ordering these, but they're just fine, work great, no problems at all plugging them into camcorder or Mac USBs to capture footage in Final Cut. I ordered 15 for the school where I teach and students have been using them all the time, no problems at all. I will say I felt it was nasty that they shipped all 15 together but charged for each one shipping separately - and they charged a HUGE shipping fee for each. When I wrote asking them, they answered but they were icy.
