This violin is perfect for a 10 year old just starting to take lessons. The bridge needed to be shaved so that was not convenient. The carrying case is the best. It is light weight also perfect for a 10 year old.

One night I'm watching Joe Versus the Volcano... and Joe is afloat on his steamer trunks playing the Cowboy Song on his ukulele... and it hits me: I want to learn to play the ukulele just so I can play that song! I've played guitar casually for many years, but I had no clue about the guitar's little cousin. I knew that I wanted something better than a toy ukulele, but also knew I had no plans to play this professionally. After looking around online, I decided to order the OU-5 Oscar Schmidt by Washburn from Amazon.
Summary: I could not be happier. This is a wonderful instrument for both the first time user and the semi-serious amateur. The ukulele is beautiful. The woodwork is gorgeous. Everyone who has seen it says "wow". It sounds ... Read More:

Bought a Guitar/Amp.They were packaged VERY poorly & items arrived to me ALREADY damaged. This co. has NO phone #.I e-mailed-told company the items were not in working condition & I HAD to return them. They did not answer many e-mails.They WOULD NOT pay for return shipping even though I could NOT use the broken items.Told co. I would give poor feedback or call the Better Business Bureau if they did not pay return shipping & they still did not pay. Poor Company to work with--Stay away !!!!!
Setup requires a little paitence, but after a new tailpiece (wood, with fine tuners), a better set of strings, and some non-slip peg "glue" this instrument ROCKS. This is a great instrumet for a beginner to the violin (though perhaps not music). I spent about 50 extra dollars, and now I've got a great violin that I can practice on withought bothering my roomantes.
The fingerboard is a little off center, but it's off center the right direction, and shouldn't affect playing too much. I had the bridge fly at me a few times (the back of the bridge should be at a 45 degree angle) the first time I tried to tune the new strings, but they relax after a while, and if you get the no-slip peg drops you adjust everything to a lesser extent.
