Gibson Practice Chanter Kit

This is a good practice chanter from a name-brand manufacturer, and includes what is probably the most widely-used beginner's book and a CD. The included reed is decent also, which is a plus. There are better chanters out there, but this is a perfectly good choice. I prefer long practice chanters like this, as it feels a bit more like the pipe chanter itself.

If you are buying this for yourself or as a gift, and you know little or nothing about piping, you can be assured this is a good starting point.

Hohner 580/20 Meisterklasse Harmonica, Key of C

I love the Meisterklasse harmonica. I first came in contact with one when I went for my weekly massage at my brothers office. My massage therapist introduced me to the instrument.

I was impressed with the sleek and sophisticated appearance of the Meisterklasse. I love the way the name brand Hohner appears on the top of the instrument alongside the model name. I also like the similarity between this instrument and the 150th anniversary models.

On the down side however, I was not happy with the fact that the Meisterklasse does not sport numbered holes. This took some time of getting used to, very briefly I may say.

The overall quality of this instrument is good. It even comes with a cloth bag to store it in. I would say that the paint job could be better, so if you are looking for a display piece, this may be a slight problem. The paint job's quality is is good for the most part, but careful inspection shows sloppy work on the center of the shaft. This being said, if you are looking for a cheap way to learn this wonderfully fun instrument, then this is the product for you!

Hohner 34B/20 Old Standby Harmonica, Key of C

This harp is ok to have as a spare, but I would not recommend using it to learn on. It just sits in my truck as a spare harp to mess with during lunch breaks and when I have to wait on someone. It is alright for this, but its prob better to invest another 10 dollars and get a nicer one. The Marine Bands from hohner are a favorite of mine and are perfect to learn on. Its ok for the price.
