A few years ago, I got my first house and the yard desperately needed to be taken care of. My old man was such a nitpick when it came to his yard and I never saw much point in that. That is, until I got my own yard. Edging was always one of those things I thought was worthless. Again, until I got my own yard. I happened to run into this while at Home Depot and it looked rather interesting. It was on sale, so I bought it and immediately jumped on my yard. This little guy did a BEAUTIFUL job on my sidewalks and front walk. So much so, I got a lot of my neighbors starting to ask who did my yard! It provides such a clean cut and doesn't take a lot of effort to use. What a backsaver! I just got though using it on my mother's yard and was still happy ... Read More:

I'll have to say it's nothing like the pictures they show you, you shove it from the side of the edge really hard, with step facing upwards and cuts into the soil, the you erect it and while at it give the step a few good kicks which is now away from you instead of in front of you like the pictures shown, stomp on it to make sure it cuts into the soil which you shovel upon, stomp on it again to make sure soil being erected will move up along the edger, and give it a final stomp when the edger is being fully erected to make sure everything stays in place, so that's 3 hard stomps for every few inchs on lawn edge, all withe the step facing away from you. The handle could have been longer, the step can be wider, the blade can be thicker and more axe ... Read More:

The one I received is "Ames True Temper", not "Razorback", and it's blue, not red. I was told it's the same tool, and Ames bought out Union. Only problem is, if I knew it was the same tool, I could've purchased the Ames tool for less on another website.
This is a real sturdy tool, solid, cuts well. Takes a little more sweat than an electric edger, but the experience is so much more rewarding. Has the same kind of feel as a push lawnmower, sometimes taking a few extra swipes at thicker grass, but it hasn't let me down. There is a tendency for weeds to get caught in the blades and I can imagine a higher quality rotor with sharper, more effective blades, but I'm not at all disappointed. A good investment.
I was looking for a tool that would allow me to keep my patio edged nicely without creating a lot of noise as my side yard is rather near my neighbor's home. After the initial run (which gave me a nice clean line to follow after the edger removed the excess grass and soil) I find it very easy to keep the edges nice and neat. I also use it on other edge sites and it does a nice job. I am a 70 year old lady who loves to keep my garden looking great and likes to get a little exercise as a bonus. I would recommend this tool if you don't mind a little effort to get the job done.
