Wood Blaster Log Splitter Wedge

I had the usual wedge splitter, but it never did a decent job on some of the big stuff. This new wedge, I just hit the wood first with my axe to start a small crease, then use the sledge hammer and this wedge and it does a WAAYYY better job of splitting then a regular wedge. It worked on pieces larger that 18" in diameter. Very happy with it.

The previous reviewer made a common mistake assuming a cutting wedge for felling and bucking (which this product is) can be used as a log splitting wedge (which this isn't). No sawyer uses steel wedges for felling or bucking trees. This is because if the chainsaw strikes a steel wedge it will damage the saw and possibly cause an unsafe kickback. Plastic wedges don't damage the saw, don't cause kickbacks and can be 're-sharpened' if accidentally struck by the saw.

Anyone using a chainsaw to cut wood needs at least one plastic wedge. You'll find yourself getting stuck sometimes, no matter how good of an arborist you are, and these really help out. Sometimes they're great for inserting in a log and cutting while pried out, which is why you don't want metal. Buy two!
