The Flowtron Model BK-40D Electronic Insect Killer (One Acre Coverage) is a nicely built unit that will last a long time and works great at zapping moths. But this unit will not attract and kill all insects equally. There are many varieties of insects. Many common mosquito varieties will not be attracted by light alone. There are other models that add additional chemical or other components specifically designed to attract mosquitoes, particularly the Flowtron BK-80D 80-Watt, 1-1/2-Acre Electronic Insect Killer. As for this unit, if you are mostly concerned about moths you should be satisfied.

Flowtron MA-1000-6 Octenol Mosquito Attractant Cartridges (6-Pack)

The Flowtron lamp doesn't work at all to get rid of the mosquitoes without these cartridges.

They're great!

Just make sure that you paste it so that the holes on the cartridge are exposed because my boyfriend did it the other way around and couldn't figure out why it didn't work until I got a closer look at it!

We live in Barbados and during the last couple of months, we have had lots of rain. And with rain comes plenty of mosquitos. I would spray the dark spots in the house where the critters hide before I left home in the morning in an attempt to have a peaceful evening. It turned out to be just a waste of bug-killer. I bit the bullet and bought the unit and received the Flowtron on Saturday. After adjusting the ring that it hangs from (it seemed that it pull through the hook that I was going to hang it from), I placed it under our back porch.

Pretty basic device not worth writing a whole lot about.
It serves it's purpose although the mounting screws could be a little longer and galvanized for exterior use. None-the-less the bracket is sturdy when mounting on the exterior siding.

Purchased two units, and one was DOA. Fast ship for unit replacement. Overall, these are not a good buy in my opinion. No bulb retainer is provided, even when the doc's show one. Power is too low to keep the electronic grid clean, and no access is provided to clean the grid. The grid itself seems poorly attached to the top of the unit.

For one thing this bulb does the job for not for a long period of time, it just does not last long and at the price that they cost, I am not happy with it. One more thing, I just noticed in the listing that this is a close out item! What happens when they run out? Throw away the entire unit? Also, consider that for around $10 more one can buy a brand new unit and it comes with the bulb. I will try Home Depot or Lowes and see what happens as far as cost is concerned.

Flowtron FA-5000 Fly Sex Lure

The mosquito cartridges worked so well in our Flowtron 80W that I decided to try the fly lure. $25.08 for ONE flimsy piece of 'stuff' to attach to the outside of the Flowtron. Not only did I NOT see any dead flies after attaching this item, we had a 20 mile wind with a slight rain one night about a week after putting it on the unit, the next morning this $25.08 flimsy piece of 'stuff' was broke in half and laying on the ground. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. This item will never be purchased from this house again! I hate being taken in with lousy material and design.
