I knew the company made too much profit one it, but still could not help buy got one at $390 at this beginning of the year after reading all the positive reviews.
1. Bad technical support. Emailed two questions, no answer.
2. Card reader constantly has error when it is hot in summer.
3. Less powerful cpu (actual speed 600MHz). I added 2G memory. They are useless with such cpu. Cannot properly play the popular MKV format movie.
4. It is small, but it does not fit my pocket. I don't see much difference with a normal laptop when carrying it for travel.
5. The key board is too small. Those who has a PDA with mini key board knows it.

This is an exceptional laptop though it does run hot on your lap so I purchased a laptop cooler just so it lifts it off my lap with circulation underneath and it keeps it cool enough so it doesn't shut down without using the usb fan which is great because I don't want to be listening to a usb fan when I'm working.

The first laptop I purchased would crash when it got too hot because I had it directly on my lap without much circulation.

The laptop I have now with the cooler doesn't ever crash.

Another benefit that hasn't been mentioned is that there is room for 2 hard drives in the chassis. I put in another 250 gb laptop which is great since I am an avid photographer.

This product is unbelievably fast, has excellent handling, perfect wi-fi, camera is nice, sound is excellent. It has it all. The nasty snag is that Windows XP is installed in a *4Gb partition*. If I know that beforehand I would had reconsidered my choice of buying it. After a few installs and Windows Update the C:\ drive becomes full and you can't do anything else. Reading lots of posts across the internet I became aware of several tweaks that works: transferring user files do D:\, which has 8Gb, switching program files folder to D:\, uninstalling everything and installing onto D:\ and so on and on and on. We bought a Gateway desktop and Windows got hosed for some reason. We called 1-800-GATEWAY for support. Guess what? If you buy a Gateway anywhere but their website you must call a separate toll number. WTF!? Then we needed to restore it but the restore partition was bad. Had to get the recovery disk. They charged me $20 for a $1 CD-R. Then it wouldn't work, and they wanted to charge me to tell me how to use it. Again WTF? These people are horrible. Save yourself a lot of trouble and get a Mac. Get HP. Get an abacus. Anything but Gateway.

I got this computer two weeks ago. When I powered it up it asked me for a user name and password; the included quick setup guide mentioned that it would give me the opportunity to set these up, but this was not the case. So, I called customer support and they told me that if I wanted to change the user name that I would have to reinstall the OS and if I just wanted to change the password they could send me an email with steps. So, they sent me an email with the steps and I was able to change the password and log in. This was given to me as a gift, wasn't what I asked for, but anyway. Mine died after owning it for 1 month. Basically it was problem with Vista. I chatted with the HP tech online on another computer trying to fix the problem, no dice. The technician claimed it was my fault I broke it. Oh, I did not get a recovery disk when I got the laptop either, so it didn't help the situation that I had to wait 1 month for the recovery disk while HP sent it to me. Yes, mine was a faulty programming issue by Vista as I later determined. I had asked for a much tougher laptop because I do digital photography.
