I needed a much smaller laptop to take to classes and around my college. My battery failed horribly on another laptop(a dell, actually) a long time ago, so I shot for the better battery so I could finally have a laptop that was portable.

So, this was the best option and it seems to be working out wonderfully. But, I do recommend some things to be changed, depending what type of person you are.

Linux Lite is great for someone who doesn't know a lot about linux or computers really. It just turns on, and in minutes you can get on the web and do much more. Though I loved my previous laptop and used it with no complaints since November 2003, I feel like I was a caterpillar and now I'm a butterfly, using my new Toshiba L305D-S5581! Well, okay, I did have a complaint about how long it took my old PC to boot up and shut down, and was thrilled with my new Toshiba's faster accomplishments of those routine operations. I had expected slower instead of faster, due to VISTA and the additional programs which would be on the new laptop. I had XP on my old laptop. I like both versions of MS Windows OS, and can see the advantages of each, but VISTA is definitely the butterfly.

Wonderful little machine, exactly what I was looking for, except the terrible Xandros linux OS that comes with it. I thought I'd be able to stick it out and try it for a while, but after 5 minutes I was looking into Ubuntu for the EEE. Unless you're happy with a $500 fisher price toy, plan on installing a different version of linux or any kind of manageable operating system. If you cant do that, then get the 1000h with windows and save yourself the trouble.
Also, do not fool yourself into thinking this is all you need. If you have a bigger screen and keyboard at home, you will use that, and you should. Netbooks are not intended to be your main machine, and should rather function as your travel companion.

I was looking for a 17" screen computer and this one fit the bill. It is easy to operate, and the 64 bit operating system is working fine. I deleted the software that came with it and loaded AVG anti virus, Spybot spyware and also Open office instead of paying for the microsoft office system supplied. I have not had any problems but one annoying thing was the automatic update feature. I suggest you change the settings to ask if you want to download the update to keep the computer from re-starting when you are in the middle of a project.

I priced this at other stores and Amazon was cheapest. Free shipping and I got the computer in 3 days!

This is my first time using a Mac,and I don't think I'll ever switch back to PCs again. I am only pissed that the price on Amazon is $200 cheaper. Perhaps price has come down in the past six months?

I just wanted to say that i am a 'desktop homebased Mac person', but really wanted one of these little netbooks to be able to check my email/do misc. Internet things while out & about. I have do have some experience with PC's, & this little machine (Asus 901 Atom processor-Windows XP version) is perfect for taking with you anywhere-i haven't experienced any problems (keep in mind i probably don't use this machine to it's fullest potential, even). It's really nice to have with you away from home. Works perfectly with my Novatel wireless card. Total price delivered for mine was around $411-glad i got it before the increase in price.

pros: lightweight, slim, really portable. Good screen, sufficient amount of USB ports.

cons: two hours battery life is not that much. Windows operation is a kind
of slow. May be one can optimize that but that's what one get out of the box. Keys are small and touch typing will be difficult for the first time.
