HP Officejet J6480 All-in-One Printer

The bottom line: The J6480 offers a lot of features for the price I paid. Those features seem nice to have on tap, even if I probably won't use most of them. Plus, when the job is done, it's done pretty well. Also, I'm learning a lot about the state of consumer printer technology. Finally, I don't like admitting that I made a losing choice. All reasons why I'm toughing it out.

With a review like that, you know I'm not really loving it. You want some specifics? Fair enough.

The Good:
* Wireless set up went well. I followed the instructions in someone else's Amazon review.
* The CD install was long but succeeded on my WinXP desktop.
* My Vista laptop found the printer and installed drivers on its own.

I've owned different brands over the years and recently had my third Maxtor/Seagate fail beyond recovery. My choices narrowed down to Western Digital, LaCie and G-Tech. WD are great units but the My Book Studio edition has fewer connection ports and no power switch. G-Tech also makes great devices but cost more which made the LaCie an easy choice.

LaCie has a decent reputation among the creative community. The d2 is a great external HDD with 4 connectivity options, an all Aluminum enclosure (which is almost entirely a heat sink) and a three position power switch (on, off and auto). I use it with a couple of Macs and a neat feature of this device, which pops-up on the first mount, is an option to create a "swap partition" to allow Windows connectivity.

Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB Headset

I use this headset when making camtasia videos and can't complain.
The recording is clear, no pops or hisses. If I need to do a narration to fix something the sound quality is the same as the precious recording which is real nice.

People complain about the mike not being adjustable besides up and down- but this would be a problem with making consistant recordings. Its actually better for it not to be in my opinion.

M+2 Gb Xd-picture Card

This is my 3rd memory card which I bought for my Olympus Digital Camera. The other two are 512MB H XD and 8GB microSD. I bought this card so that I could shoot Videos in VGA mode upto 30fps. I am a bit disappointed because it can store only 2GB (thats max available) and is very slow in perfomance (sometimes takes upto 45sec to store a photo in Scene mode).

But, if you have another USB cable, it will work fine. Most people have extra USB cables lying around. Works well with linux. I have formatted it for EXT3 and works beautifully on Linux. On Windows, works in EXT2 mode using ext2ifs and the like softwares.

Logitech QuickCam Deluxe for Notebooks

pros: good video quality; several special effects;
cons: not very convenient to attach on ThinkPad X series, and have to take it off every time for it blocked the sight of a tiny part of my upper screen.
