This item would work well if your child is in the crawling stage. However, if your child is walking then this is not for them. My son is able to push the gate where he wants it. And because it is so light he is also able to pick it up and escape.

I was looking for some type of gate for my dogs ... we have four Miniature Schnauzers and I wanted something practical and nice looking. Plus the doorway to our living room is 5 feet wide and I was having a heck of a time finding a one-piece gate to fit it. This gate fit the doorway perfectly and is very flattering. We have hardwood floors in the living and dining rooms and I just wanted to keep those blocked off. The gate still allows us to easily step over it and we love it!

I bought this gate a couple months ago. My son was not yet crawling, but he could scooch himself wherever he needed to go. It was perfect for keeping him in one place with all his toys, and away from the tables and plants that he was wanting to get into.

However, as he got older, and learned to crawl and get around more quickly, I felt bad sticking him in here. There really isn't much room to move around (I can't even imagine putting TWO children in this). I ordered the two panel extension, but never received it (they canceled my order...argh!). Having to improvise, I used my couch as a natural barrier on one side, and attached each end of the gate to each end of my couch. It gave him TONS of room! Now he can crawl all over the ... We bought this for our daughters playroom, bottom of stairs, and for another room in the house. This gate is a great buy; very sturdy.

We are already at a disadvantage when it comes to shipping, since we do not live in the contiguous/continental US. Many vendors do not wish to ship direct. We had to make arrangement to ship to my girlfriend in California and then reship to our home.
Unfortunately my dogs will have nothing to do with this product. The stairs are not very stable on ceramic tile floors. Even placing a small area rug under the stairs does not fix the problem as far as the dogs are concerned. The steps now sit in the garage awaiting disposal.
They may work on carpet.

Evenflo Top of Stair Gate

Believe me! It's the best baby gate I found so far. And we had them all. This is my ninth gate (no kidding), I tried. I looked for a solid, easy to open, wide opening top of stair gate to keep my 7 months old from falling down our stairs.

One of our other gates (The First Years All Clear Swing Gate) was good for a while and smooth to open, but broke when our 28 lbs toddler leaned against it (two small plastic pieces with screws inside). I could not fix it - even using all my Mc Giver tools and knowledge. Most of the others could not be opened with one hand and were too narrow to walk thru with a toddler, a baby and some shopping bags.

I bought the right ones and inexpensive... Keep in mind that the gate does not have swing door. If I was shorter than 5'3", I could not cross over the gate. Other than that it was great buy.

Great product and easy to install.

I have a 40 lb, 5 month old lab that was jumping on my old suction cup, baby gate. This product has withstood him jumping and bumping on it. I highly recommend it for dog owners looking for something to use to contain their dog.

I kid you not, this 'bird house' device did the trick within three days! Situation: Beach community with decks about 25' apart. The neighbors 'Heinz' variety barked at everything; with the owner offering little assistance & with no positive results! Well the dog must have a high IQ because his barking tapered off almost immediately!!!

Like others have said, this is a very nice wood & metal gate. It is very pretty and is sturdy. Much better than the plastic gates that bend too easily. The latch is easy to open and locks automatically when swinging shut. It's also short enough to step over if you have your hands full. I'm buying a second one for a different door.
