After reading the other reviews I decided to spend the money on this about a month ago. We put our place on the market and also were going out of town. I wanted something that would contain the litter and hide it but would also be easy for the neighbor to stop in and take care of it. This thing is really easy to use. I use 'Scoop Away' brand litter- and by preference add extra baking soda. I keep about 3 inches or so of litter in the bottom and it works great for my two cats. I clear it out every morning (takes less than a minute) and once a week I open the whole thing to make sure there isn't too much build up on the grate inside- very easy to do. I have used the Litter Locker Plus for about 6 months now with 2 cats. I use the Tidy Cats Breeze Litter boxes which are great for keeping the mess away and pee, but don't control poop order so well. Once I scoop it into the Litter Lock though, it keeps the smell completely away. I haven't ever broken a bag. One time I missed the black line that shows its near the end of a refill, and put the poop in, turned the wheel and the bag ran out making the poop fall to the bottom. It was an easy clean up though. I also don't turn the wheel every time I scoop, just dump in for a day or two til it gets close to the top and then turn the wheel. Feliway has worked wonders on this stressed bedroom kitty. He was losing weight and licking his belly bare. I installed a feliway diffuser and within a week he was his old self and still is. He's a 14 year old rescue cat and I don't know all the background that may have led to this, so Feliway is on the menu for some time to come.The 6 pack refills are a budget saver.

I have been using Scoop Free Litter Cartridge for 6 months. I have one medium sized cat. Within two weeks of inserting a new cartridge the bottom on the box is soaked through with urine and the floor beneath the cartridge is wet. Because I need to change the cartridge every 10 days to prevent the leakage, the product is too expensive for me to continue to use.Considering the cost of the refills, a plastic box to replace the cardboard box would be a terrific improvement!

I would recommend avoiding this litter box at all costs. The premise and set up make sense...However, it is executed poorly. The rake stopped working after 4 days. The bucket that pops up had the removable lid come off and it dumped litter on top and then all over the side.

You have to try this. After buying two electronic machines that broke, this is the best thing I can say I have ever invested in... Seriously! There is no smell and I am so excited to not have to use the dusty litter. Never again! My husband and I got the unit as a deal of the day and then spent about 80 for what we consider a year supply of pads and litter. We actually did not even replace the "litter" (plastic pellets) for over a month. It stays so clean. Our cat is finnicky too - where she only likes to go in certain spots with certain litters. We bought this and added a few pellets to her existing litter at the time as recommended and she picked up on it right away... Well, I wasn't sure that this product would be that great. I was afraid that it would start stinking and that my rather large cat with humongous poops would make this cat box seem like a pipe dream. I was wrong. I've now owned it for a month and have had no problems with smells and it works like a charm! Yes it can be a little loud when the rake does its thing but its not bad and when my cat hears the rake start working, he runs downstairs to watch it move.

And as a side note, at first I thought the cartridges were a little pricey but when I figured out how much I spent on kitty litter per month, I realized that the difference in price was about $10 per month. I'm more than willing to spend $10 a month to not have to clean the litter box every ... Read More:

No more dust, no more carrying what felt like 50 lbs of pee balls out with the garbage. My 15 yr old cat drinks a lot of water, so he pees a LOT. However, because he pees so much, a pad only lasts about 2 days. I once forgot about it until the 5th day and it was horrible. The good thing was that the box was right next to the toilet and I was able to just pour out the excess pee that the oversoaked pad could not absorb. Thank goodness for latex gloves and Clorox wipes.

(Also, my cat's pee STINKS, and if the pellets stay wet too long, it turns into a disgusting clump of soggy clay. I sprinkle baking soda into the mess and go at it with the scoop and it is nicely refreshed.)
