Soft Paws / Soft Claws for Cats - Medium Natural
At first I was a little skeptical, but now that they have been on a week, they really do work well!
I had to have another person hold each cat, as I was putting on the nails (and yes, they did squirm and howl, but I think it was just because they did not care to be held that much...one cat even tried to bite me, but at least he can no longer scratch!)
I picked my school colors black and red and the size medium fit all three of my cats( one is 5 pounds, 8 pounds, and 13 pounds.)
I gave my cat a bath today, and they did not come off in the water, and he could not scratch me (dispite his efforts)
Basically, I am extremely happy with them and will no longer be woken up ... Read More:
Our cat is 10 years old and is mostly my husband's cat. I am not really fond of cats because of their penchants for clawing everything (seemingly just because they can!) We never got her declawed because of the supposed pain and possible complications so as a result, we've lived with clawed furniture. Recently, however, we purchased a nice new micro-fiber sofa that was fairly expensive. We thought the cat would ignore it since she has a huge (8 foot) cat condo tower scratching post. I watched her during the day and no problems. Then the next morning...I discovered she had clawed the back of the sofa during the night! I called the vet to schedule the de-clawing! My husband said he wouldn't allow it and told me about the soft claws he had ... Read More:
After my divorce I moved in with my sister and her husband. At the time I had a 14 year old Maltese who died shortly after I moved in with them. Since I have always had a pet in my life - my sister agreed to letting me get a kitten. Their stipulation was that I get her declawed. But I couldn't do it. I've had cats before and had them declawed never really looking into what it involved. Researching this time - I was horrified at what I had put by previous cats thru and refused to do it to my current kitten. But having a choice of declawing or losing my home or cat - I looked into other options. Soft Claws are wonderful - a life saver. I also had experiences with the cat getting caught in things, but after talking to the Soft Claw people I ... Read More:
I use soft paws for both of my cats and absolutely love them.
Both of my cats will tolerate being held on their backs like babies, so it was simple to put them on, I just had my partner cradle the cats and pet them as a distraction. My kitten does not seem to notice them at all ( not even the very first time I put them on her) My adult cat chewed her first pair off, but after re-application does not mind them a bit.
I prefer the colored ones because as a previous poster stated, it makes it much easier to tell when they have lost one, + I just think it's cute :)
Soft Paws delivers its promise. I was able to apply these very easily, all my myself to my two kitties. I was a little concerned that they would try to take them off in the first few days, but as soon as I was done applying Soft Paws, they walked off as if nothing happened. They haven't fussed at their paws since - it's been about two weeks. My cats are also toilet trained, so I was also a little worried that the Soft Paws would prevent them from landing safely when they jump on the toilet seat - but so far - no one has fallen in. They still have the urge to scratch, although not as frequently, but when they do - nothing gets destroyed anymore. Hats off to the wonderful people who made this product - I will continue to use it and reccommend it. So far, so GREAT!
Many of the negative reviewers are forgetting a crucial step and the package doesn't describe it either.
Our daughter is an animal groomer at PetSmart and she

clips the nail tips from the cats before applying any SoftClaw or other kind of claw tip

This is crucial since the cats nail will grow more slowly with the claw cover and this makes the hassle and expense of the SoftClaw worthwhile.
If you are a do it yourselfer, then start with a quality pair of electrical dykes or wire clippers and sterilize them before applying the SoftClaws.
Using the same instructions on the package, grip the cats nails with your thumb on top and index finger on the bottom to extend their nails.

We just put these on my cat last week, and she adjusted to them very quickly. She shook her feet a bit at first, but only for a few minutes. Now she's much less pokey and can't destroy the carpets. I guess it varies a lot from cat to cat, but my cat is still wearing all of hers with no problems, so I think it's worth a try.
This is a great alternative to declawing, which I am opposed to. Also, as a note, I would not recommend putting these on the back claws because the cat uses those to scratch. Imagine having an itch and not being able to scratch! It's probably ok if you leave just the inside back toe uncovered though.
I purchased this to keep the cats off of the kitchen counter and out of the garden window. After the 3rd time, the cats will not even go near where they see the device sitting. It sure did the job. Don't even need to leave it turned on most of the time. They learned quickly. Money well spent.
