I bought this recorder for a gift (used). It has no volume on it, so I am seriously disappointed...it was DAMAGED and I am sure the person who sold it to me knew this. I am very very very unhappy.

Nice camcorder. Easy to use. Can see tapes right away unlike digital camcorders. this was a gift for my 14 year old grandaughter and she loves it.

I bought a Panasonic Camcorder a few years back. I continually got a Dew Detected message. Got that fixed and shortly there after the sound was intermitant as noted in so many other reviews here and elsewhere - though I did not know it at the time. So I gave Panasonic another chance. I bought this model and it worked fine again for about a year or so...Then, Halloween comes around and the sound is not there, then there, then so low you can barely hear it then static then back. Needless to say as with others the moment was lost, FOREVER!

This camcorder was purchased as a gift for my daughter and used about 12 times over a 6 month period before experiencing intermittent failures. The labor warranty on this unit is only 90 days and labor costs for repair approach the original cost. It is unconscionable for Panasonic to market a defective product like this. This reflects poorly on their other products and unless they address this issue with me, I will avoid their products and advise others to avoid their products as well. I might chalk this up to one defective unit if I hadn't read other accounts of the same issue. This is a manufacturing or design defect that has not been addressed by Panasonic.

I concur wholeheartedly with all the good reviews here--we've had this camcorder for many years now and have shot hundreds of hours of video with it. It's great! One possible design flaw is the rotating eyepiece or viewfinder. Over the years the ribbon cable inside it wore out and I had a dickens of a time finding another. There are parts lists several places but no diagram to determine the part number, even from RCA (Thomson)service centers. If your display has gone to black and white or otherwise fritzed out, try moving the eyepiece down toward the stored position and see if it comes back (mine did, in green). Got this camcorder for christmas 3 yrs.ago.After storing the camcorder for about 1 yr. I charged the battery and when I went to check a tape that I had recorded 14 mos. ago there was no picture on the monitor and the viewfinder.I had sound but no picture.I called the JVC service division and they told me to ship it to them and they would check it out and tell me how much it would cost to fix it.I also went to an authorized JVC repair shop and was told that this was a problem that JVC had know about and that if I send it to the JVC that they would fix it for free.The JVC service division person I spoke to told me that I would have to pay.

We almost bought the PCV-L552 for its big view finder and 27x optical zoom, but after a lot of digging on obscure web sites, we found this older camera suffers from a dew detector light that goes off too easily, shutting down camera for hours. The PV-L424 just came out in 2004.

I was given this video camera by a friend. It "apparently" worked when he last used but it seems the lens stopped working and was not picking up a picture. I figured out how to use the camera and all its functions quickly! The manual was easy to follow and menu was not complicated. I was over all pleased with it other than not being able to get a picture so I called panasonic. They were so helpful they spent a while trouble shooting with me. Even though I did not have a warranty or even buy the product new. They figured out what was wrong and gave me the info I needed to get it to someone who can get it to like new for me. I have had this camera for over 6 years now.. Great camera and so simple to use.. After 3 years the battery was not holding up any charge but I found one on ebay with higher amp capacity for just 15 bucks..

I am satisfied with the product!!
