GREAT CAMERA!! THE PICTURE IS OUTSTANDING!! ONE DISAPPOINTMENT IS THAT THE CAMERA IS NOT EQUIPMENT WITH A "HDMI" CABLE CONNECTION. FOR THE PRICE I WAS SURE THAT IT WOULD HAVE THAT CONNECTION.
BUT OVERALL, I'M VERY HAPPY WITH THE CAMERA. 99% OF MY SHOOTING IS OUTSIDE OF ACTIVE RAILROAD OPERATIONS. FAST MOVING TRAINS, ETC. ASO I SHOOT FIREFIGHTING SCENES FOR MY FIRE DEPT. ONCE AGAIN, OUTSTANDING CAMERA!!

We needed another camcorder didn't really want a HD because of the problems of no software out there to create HDDVDs. We bought this because our other sony is 10yrs old and didn't want to buy what we had. We are very glad we did. Even regular tapes look stellar in the 1080i format. The 20x zoom is to drool over. It is wonderful we use it for birding only now they are moving. All the techie stuff should come from my husband, but I am writing this so you won't hear it from me. I do not hear him swear or crank about difficult maneuvers. He likes the programable buttons. I found the change to Final Cut HD easy. I just bought this camera last week with the intention of making a feature HDV film with a group of like-minded individuals and I have to say now that I've received it and shot a little bit of footage with it I'm very excited. The picture is crystal clear and very bright. I watched what I shot on my HD television and it looks great, better than some professionally produced videos that air on the HD channels. I'm pleased with my purchase and with any luck will be shooting a feature with it this spring. I'm also going to spring for a glide cam stabilizer and some other accessories.

I'm not going to rant on & on about all the features & how they compare to ALL the other models, you will go NUTS trying to keep each models pros & cons straight in your head & get dizzy after a while!! LOL I know I did!
After TOO much research, I broke down & finally bought this camera & let me tell you, we have been nothing but pleased in that decision! One of the key deciding factors, besides the most 'BANG" for the buck, was ALL the online user help groups with very active forums & myriads of artcles & info to ANY question that a new user could EVER need! I think this is an awesome camcorder for its intended target market and purpose. The results are pristine and every button and function just works great without being overcomplicated. This is one camera where you don't have to read the instruction manual to figure it out. You have to maintain and clean the camera from time-time to deliver maximum potential, but it's not a hassle. And don't switch tapes often - stick with one brand. This is a camcorder I cannot do without.

Bought the camera sight unseen, which was a mistake. I shoot in a lot of low light situations, which this camera DOES NOT do well in (my old digital 8 camera blows this away). I've had to boost to hyper gain which is an extremely grainy picture.

I recently had the Canon GL1 and thought it was time to upgrade to Hi-Def. After reading about 30 customer and 20 pro reviews it was the only camera that was offered pro features and great image quality worth way more then the price. It is all because of the CMOS sensor the camera uses. It consumes less power, less money to produce, better image quality then CCD and does not smear light. Some people say it's a consumer camera because it only has a one chip sensor instead of three like a CCD sensor but a CMOS sensor is a lot different then a CCD. A single chip CMOS sensor is three mega-pixels just like three CCD chips. It should be considered a pro camera instead of a consumer camera.

I recieved 2 defective JVC GY-HD110's from Amazon. Sent them back and fronted the extra cash for this one. Best decision I have ever made. Recording to Compact Flash cuts my editing time in half. The battery time is 4 times longer with the stock battery than the JVC too! I love everything about it.

Purchase new VX-2100 in September 2008 & did so based on the fact I have had a Sony VX-2000 for 5 years. The VX-2000 has a clear eye viewer and the VX-2100 reminds me of looking through a plastic toy microscope. Still has all the good quality of VX-2000 but, a very cheap eye piece.

I was a bit nervous buying a camera at this level. But I have learned so much from it. I'm still learning. It's an impressive piece of equipment. Very versatile. You have to take it out and experiment, but that's the fun of it. I would recommend that you read, read, read all the reviews. Boy, it gets attention when you are out in public (what fun!)
People ask for my business card often because they assume I'm a pro just by using it. Or they ask, what TV station I work for. There are lots of add-ons to consider owning. Its not High Definition but who needs it? I take it everywhere. Just remember you will eventually need a good travel case,a wind screen, extra batteries, a heavy-duty professional tripod and additional lenses to complete your experience.
