Pro's:

-Great DoF (f/1.8)
-Great bokeh
-Inexpensive

Cons:
-Plastic, unlike the mk1... I've heard it's very easy to break... If you drop it it's a goner
-AF is noisy
-Focusing ring is annoying

Overall:
Overall, I love this lens... It's great, especially for the price. If you can't take perfect care of your lens, save up for the mk1, which is about $300 more, made of metal, and is f/1.4. But if you want a great lens for a cheap price and are willing to take care and just be a bit extra careful, I'd recommend this beauty.

This is a good entry level telephoto zoom. Works fine for people like me who need telephoto lens only occasionally. Yes, it is all plastic and cheaply built, but that makes it very light weight. The auto focusing is a little bit slow, but this is what you can expect from a lens of this price. However, if you have large budget and will like to use a telephoto more often, go get yourself a better lens.

Brought this for the D80 about two months ago, and I'm loving it. With the 1.5 crop factor, it's perfect for portraits, and I don't have to get too close to my victim (subject/model). I also compliment this with the 85mm 1.8 for portraits. Of course, your feet/legs have to work for the composition, but this puppy will deliver sharp images!

Not a good lens for the price. Just got a couple of weeks ago and it has collected more dust in the internal glass than my camera's sensor. It's unbelievable the poor build & to think you pay $600 plus for this lens. Get another lens, not worth the money! I'm using it with my D300.

THis lens is recommended for any amatuer photographer that is looking for a reliable, crisp fairly priced telephoto lens. You could get a cheaper one, but for a few bucks more, this Nikon is awesome!

Better build quality than the f/1.8 and incredible price point with many of the attributes of the f/1.2 at a fraction of the price - this is my new "go to" lens when I want a lightweight, fast prime. It isn't the sharpest lens wide open, but stop it down to f/2 (and beyond) and you will be amazed. Great bokeh combined with fast AF for just over $300? I call that a deal any day of the week. As long as you aren't expecting "L-series" results I suspect you'll be pretty pleased with what Canon has to offer. Add the extension tubes for some incredible macro capability as well. I really enjoy this lens on my 5D. Highly recommended!

I worked with this lense for about six month now and must admit, its not the quality I would expect from canon. its hard to get sharp pictures as soon as you try to photograph moving objects. pets, kids, outside flowers in the slightest wind, aso ... no chance to get satisfying results.
my EF 75-300mm-lense will soon change its owner - and a new lense with IS will be part of my gear.

Great and powerful lens! I used it with the xsi and will with the 50d. The pics so far are ourstanding. I do think it's a little pricey but the IS system is worth it.

I have to confess I'm not a 'camera' person-- I'm probably like most of you reading this-- just looking for a good camera that takes good pictures. We've had this camera for about a month, and honestly I'm not impressed so far. I had a Nikon before this one that was 4 years old and I accidently broke the LCD. I had been kinda wanting a new camera and now had the opportunity to shop.

I use my camera to take family and friends photos, inside and outside. I did a TON of research- read all the reviews, search several review websites and chose this camera. The pictures are less than stellar so far. Some blurry, grainy, the flash doesn't suffice. I have learned a little about the ISO and have attempted to adjust that to get better pictures, yet ...
