I purchased this camcorder for my boyfriend's birthday (May 2008). I loved it so much I went out and bought myself one.

The picture quality is amazing for the price. I am very impressed. It is not a low-light (no light) camera. You need moderate lighting to see your subject when shooting indoors or at night. Keep in mind - this is not a professional quality camcorder. If you are looking for a professional camcorder this is not the product for you.

The sound is decent if your subject is talking loudly at a distance or near the mic (be careful not to block the mic with your finger when hand-holding the camera)

This is a great little camera for sports/outdoors enthusiasts looking to capture all their action on video. Simply attach the camera to your helmet, press the power button on and slide to record and your off....skateboarding, dirt/mountain biking, roller blading, hang gliding etc.

Pros include small size, light weight and ease of use (even up-loading the videos to your computer is super simple). Cons include decent but not spectacular video quality (doesn't even come close to my Panasonic SDR-H200, then again thats a nearly $1000 camera). I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw the very favorable images from this inexpensive video camera. Granted, it is quite small and sometimes it is difficult for senior hands and fingers like mine to manipulate. On the plus side the small size makes it so easy to tuck in a pocket and have it ready to use on a moment's notice. Another plus is the camera uses SD memory cards rather than tapes; you can run over an hour of video, or several hundred still images, on a 2 gig card. There's only a built-in mic, so the audio is so-so; you need to be quite near the audio source for decent results.

This was recommended to me by new parents. I sent it to my daugter and soninlaw. They love it. Compact and easy to use. I get a new video of my grandson daily. Just put it in your pocket and go. Very simple to use.

We bought this for basic use only. Within 9 months it wouldn't finalize our discs of our new baby. We sent it back at our expense. The company replaced it's organs and returned it. Six weeks later it won't work again and the company wants us to ship it back at our expense again to work on it some more. Again, our baby's precious moments are lost because it won't play on DVD without finalizing the discs. The company won't just replace the camcorder they will only fix it even though it keeps failing. Horrible camcorder, horrible company. Don't recommend a Canon or this particular DVD camcorder.

I have to admit that I acted a bit on impulse when I went ahead and bought this digital video recorder after doing a limited amount of research and having read some of the reviews here. Our previous video recorder never entirely satisfied me because it never let in enough light to make the picture look good. It would always be either too bright (from the light present or using the onboard-light) or too dark. Thus, you can imagine my impulsive action after reading the rave reviews on the video quality of this camera. As it turns out, everyone here couldn't be more accurate. I bought this camera first at Best Buy first in order to record a very important event. However, after the event, I noticed, while reviewing the video, that there was a distracting dead pixel (greeen spot always on) right in the middle of the image. After verifying that it was on the CCD and not on either of the two viewfinders, I returned the camera for a full refund. I would have exchanged it but every store was out of stock. The techs verified the defect and waived the "resocking fee." :-)

Next, I purchased the same camera, used, from Amazon.com. This time the unit appears defect-free and I am very happy with it.

This camera far surpassed my expectations. I paid $115 for it and wanted it for kayaking. I was willing to sacrifice picture quality for waterproof and most importantly the wrist strap. The wrist strap setup is top notch. It is so accessable and easy to use. I have not had any trouble with framing pictures in the view finder as some others have had. The only pictures that are hard to get is trying to get verticle pics because it is hard to position your arm and keep the camera straight with it strapped to your wrist. I was very impressed with the picture quality. I didn't expect such crisp pictures from this camera.
