I received this camera as a gift. It works fine to capture video. However, it is not recognized by the computer, so I cannot edit the images.

Yes, I connected it to the computer via Firewire and yes, I used a video capture software (tried IMovie and Final Cut on Mac, Movie Maker on Windows). None of these programs recognized the camera.

The Firewire port seems to be working, since the "DV in" info appears on the camera display when it is connected. However, the computer does not recognize the device ever. It is not possible either to transfer video from the computer to the camera (record).

Since no one else seems to have had this same problem, I believe it should be a defect of my camera. However, it ... Read More:

I purchased this model a few weeks ago and have been using it as I can. The one thing I'd read alot about was the viewfinder LCD screen can be hard to see out in the bright daylight and that is very true with it. It made the LCD Screen be just like a mirror. All I could see was my reflection. I emailed Sony and they suggested the back light should be turned on then. I haven't had another situation like that since so I'm anxious to try that and see if its any better. I did have one day that it was a little tough to see the viewfinder and I found that shading my eyes helped me see it better. I think video quality is very good. This camera is light, small, very intuitive and easy to maneuver. I chose the Canon DC330 over the DC310 because this model has the USB connection. I like recording on DVDs because I need to backup my computer anyway. Sound quality is very clear.

This is a good overall camcorder. Very light and small with an excellent zoom. The video shot in well lit areas, and that shot outside, is excellent quality. Dimmer environments produce more grainy results. I'm sure all camcorders suffer from this problem, however. Expect some noise from the tape drive in very quiet situations, but it is not unreasonable. I would recomend this to a friend.

The Sanyo Xacti VPC-E2 Digital Camcorder is ideal for all kinds of environmets. It handled the desert without a hitch. It captured great photos and video during our trip to India. I suggest getting the wrist strap as it keeps the camera from falling when riding a camel and navigating through the crowded markets. I have recommended this model to family and friends.

Overall, this is a great value camcorder. Focus could be faster under low light condition. Hard to focus when you try to follow the subject. Very shaky compare to the older DV model. You must have a steady hand to capture good video. Video file has "mod" file format which may not be recognizable by some player.

good all the way. best for use as a camcorder. sill pics are hard to get but i need video not pics so it is a good buy for me. easy to use. i will buy again if something happens to this one.

This camera is small and compact, and easy to use. It takes great pictures and video outdoors when there is an abundance of light. Indoors the photos and video are extremely poor. You can change the settings indoors to allow more light into the camera but the photos are just too "grainy" to be worth anything. If you know you will be shooting outdoors mostly and want a small easy to use camera that is easy to carry with you and operate then this is worth getting. If you plan on shooting indoors or without much light in the scene this camera is not for you. Here is a link to many photos I shot with this camera. Just had it for a few weeks, and it is my first camcorder, so nothing to compare against. It delivers what promises.
Good image quality for video, and the smile shooter is great!
The software is on the down side: With a dual core HP laptop 1 gb ram and vista it took me about 2 hr to create a SD DVD from a HD movie of about 40 minutes... slowwwww and you have to download the files to the computer. Very easy to use, however.
Suggest additional battery and memory stick.
