I bought the scanner a year or 2 ago and every thing was working properly, until I connected it to my new computer a week ago and it wasn't detected by windows. I did some testing and found out that the plug stopped working. It doesn't have a light in the front, so I don't know if it's getting power, but I connected another plug and windows detected the scanner and installed it. then I found out that the plug was the under powered(I needed 12v, 650mA, The one I used one that was 9V, 300mA). So I bought one that was 18v 1100mA that worked with a printer at a second hand store, figuring it would work with the scanner, and that the voltage and current was just the maximum value that it could support. Since I'm studying Electrical Engineering I know ... Read More:

Have used a previous Visioneer 9450 USB scanner for a year with good performance. The ADF has problems with a single page, but generaly works well.
I ordered a new one for backup and find that the same model number is NOT the same product. It has been upgraded to USB 2, is lead free, faster, etc. But the TWAIN driver has been changed and no longer supports color dropout.
I am returning the scanner because color dropout is a must have feature for my use. I am unhappy and disappointed with Visioneer, but still recommend the scanner if it has the features you need.
I have had this for about a year - great looking results, especially if corrected and printed from a good software package. The stickiness problem seems insurmountable. I have tried several different papers and drying times up to 3 weeks, but they will always stick to photo album transparent material (have tried several brands). I wish HP would sought this problem out - also occurs with prints from other HP printer models. Finally bought a Cannon Selphy dye-sub printer which does not have this problem.

This scanner produces fair results for most work. There is a major flaw in the design that prospective buyers should know. The assumption is that when scanning negatives, there will be a difference in density between the edge of the frame and the inter-frame space. This is usually, but not always the case. I have a large project involving photographing small items against a black background. I carefully exposed so that the black background produces no density on the negative. This allows the maximum dynamic range for the object I'm photographing. This scanner refuses to scan the entire strip. I get nothing. If you need a scanner for negatives, this is probably not the one to get.

My Microtek 4900 Scanner overheated for no apparent reason and started spewing a considerable amount of smoke from its inside. Luckily I caught this in time to avoid a fire, but I did inhale the toxic fumes!
A real piece of junk, cheaply built with inferior parts, poor quality control and also prone to break down in a catastrophic manner!
Do dot leave it unattended while plugged! It may set your house on fire or poison your family!
It may be good for a product liability lawyer, though!

I purchased this HP 145 Photosmart printer from an Amazon vendor in March 2006. Due to various business activities/travel I did not attempt to use the printer until last July 2007. I studied the instruction manual first;fired up the printer and printed out a thumbnail print. During this process I noticed that there was no information appearing on the LCD display.
Can anyone tell me if this unit is defective or if there is something I am doing wrong in using the printer? I contacted the vendor for advice, but due to the length of time that has elapsed since my purchase I did not expect any help. The vendor was unable to help me....
In spite of my problem I really like the convenience of this printer! I can print individual photos, BUT ... Read More:
The ink cartridge holders are very fragile. There is a tiny plastic stub that holds a giant spring that senses that a cartridge is in place or not. The stub on the black ink cartridge holder broke, so the printer would sometimes not sense that it had a cartridge in it. More importantly, the loose spring soon poked a hole in the printed circuitry that connects to the cartridge, so it broke completely. This seems like a poor engineering idea, to have cheap printed circuitry (like metallic ink on heavy paper) next to a sharp spring.
I have read reviews of the HP Deskjet 6940 (the new version of this printer), and it seems that it has the same exact problem.
While the printer was working, it printed with good quality. However, the printer would stall often. ... Read More:
I had this printer and a new cartridge sent to me while on vacation so I could print photos on the go. The "introductory" ink cartridge printed only one photo , all in RED, So I installed the new cartridge. The photos and extras like touch screen, editing, frames all were great. However, I only got 44 4x6 photos from a $20 cartridge. That puts the cost at 45cents each. Way too much! So I returned the printer. Loved the unit, hated the cost per photo.
