I had to return this printer due to the scanner not working since an error message said it couldn't communicate with the PC. Canon's online tech notes, and e-mail support (4 rounds), and a 45-minute phone call did not help. They just had me try different USB ports, uninstall and reinstall the software, and were wary of my 6' USB 2.0 cable, telling me that I needed a 4' gold-plated cable instead. I've never had a USB problem before with any other product.
They finally sent me a replacement (an upgraded unit, the MP180), but it exhibited the same problem. Both were reburbished units, but I think the Canon drivers have a problem.
I finally bought the Lexmark 2500 and it works fine.
The MP160 prints beautifully, however.

Canon i860 Photo Printer

There is one key reason why this printer beats them all. You can stop throwing money away on $30 ink cartridges. Most printers today use ink cartridges that have an on board chip that forces you to essentially buy another cartridge like its some sort of "golden ink". I've had Epson, HP, and the others over the years and grew tired of paying for the cartridges. Then I discovered the i860....

The i860 on the other hand has no chips on the cartridges at all. In fact, its one of the few printers on the market that you can get cheapo ink bottles online to refill the original cartridges with and the print quality is really good. HP OfficeJet 4215 All-in-One Printer

Printer has nice features but the paper feeder is TERRIBLE! This thing has never worked well since I purchased it several years ago. I have cleaned the feeder wheels several times and it helps for about 10 pages then farts out again. I often fantasize about throwing this printer off a very high building and watching it smash into a million pieces or running it over with my truck.

I'm a professional web site designer and as such I do a lot of scanning. Most of the scans I do are reduced in size and optimized for the web. While I don't need real high resolution scans, the image quality must be such that they can be reduced and yet remain sharp. This has proven to be a great scanner for this type of work. If you really need high end scans, you wouldn't be looking in this price range anyway. I am a Photoshop professional, but it takes time to correct each picture. The scanner's software cleans and restores color well enough to save me a considerable amount of time.

My husband and I purchased this printer so we'd have one that was compatible with Vista. This was a HUGE disappointment!! It was difficult to set up and get working. Once we did get it running, I was thrilled with the quality of the pictures I was printing (we'd just had our 2nd baby girl so I using this feature a lot). That was very short-lived however. My pictures, after only having the printer for 3 months, were all purple. So we went through the usual troubleshooting and fix-it-ourselves scenarios--buying and trying new ink cartridges, cleaning the heads, calling and e-mailing customer service, yadda-yadda-yadda. Canon i850 Photo Printer

We had this printer for about 3 years. When it is working well, it works well. On the other hand, a small amount of dust in the printer caused horrible smudging and ruined photos. Impossible to clean. No instructions for cleaning the inside of the printer to stop smudging. I managed to wipe some out with my finger the first time, but that didn't last long as now it is doing it again and I can't see anything in there (yes we close the covers on a regular basis), so must be something stuck on the print head itself. No way to get under there. Also we have had to constantly realign this thing for some reason, and visible lines were a problem. Visioneer OneTouch 7600 Flatbed USB Scanner

I bought a Visioneer 7600 USB One Touch scanner and have yet to be able to scan anything! The install goes smoothly or so one thinks. You connect and it appears to be fine. I attempt to scan an image and it only scans a black dark image. I do my leg work and research to find updated drivers and do at the Visioneer support site and the update crashes my computer! I've tried install fixes per other forums and message boards and nothing works. I can install just fine and it LOOKS like it's going to work lovely but still - just the black dark images. Oh btw - I am running Windows 98 SE - seems to be the key here. Wondering - was this scanner only made for one operating system - Windows 98!?! Not a wise choice for your money.
