I am very pleased with the product. I use it for scanning both opaque graphics and 35mm and 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 transparencies. I never use the holders for the mounted transparencies allowing me to scan more at once. I then separate them with the cropping tool in Photoshop. HINT! If the first slide in the row is too close to the top of the light slot the scanner will treat the material as opaque.
This printer is the worst ever for replacing ink cartridges. The cartridges USUALLY do not engage properly, and then you have to try over and over and over again before the printer takes hold of them. Unless you want to waste a lot of time replacing ink cartridges, don't buy this printer. Canon should be ashamed.

My father in law, who has been scanning in thousands of slides, negatives and photos going back at least 60 years brought samples of every kind of photographic data to my house to test out this scanner.
In the past I have scanned in many, many 35mm with a Canonscan 9950F.
This scanner needed more stringent evaluation, it is obviously a powerhouse designed for serious users.
We set up on DELL XPS 600 with Windows XP. Hardware setup easy, even for beginners. Someone with experience would not even need directions.
Tried the scanner with 35mm slides, 35mm negatives, black and white color photos of different levels of quality. It worked well with all of them and was able to restore poor quality ... Read More:
Lots of other reviews get into the details, so I won't bother. Let me just give my opinion of how I like the performance of this pen.
I do a fair amount of scanning and use this pen for spot scanning. It is even good enough that I have found myself using this pen to scan multiple pages, although that's not what it is best at.
The only challenge I have is when I'm trying to scan near the spine of a book. When the surface is not flat, the scan can go off into left field. When that happens, I simply go back - highlight the garbage - and rescan a bit slower and it seems to pick it up fine.
Some have said it is not that fast. I find it almost as fast as I can scan a line. I don't know what they expect from a pen scanner, but all in all ... Read More:
Just buy it! Couldn't live without it. When I want to print a lot of prints, I use Walgreens or whatever. But for the occasional print or for scrapbooking pictures of various sizes, this is awesome.
I do not know why people are complaining on the reviews about this printer. I've had alot of great times with it, and yes you have to learn how to play with settings, but you also have to know what you are doing in dealing with the printer quality and the way your printer and computer interact. As you would with ANY printer.
I just got done taking 2 college courses that touched upon it. You have to know how to set it up and how to do it, its not spy speak but it is something that takes fiddling and patience. As for ink cost, puhlease not that bad at all! Infact I just found some on here for like 18 bucks for the color! Sweet! Everywhere else its a little more. But I do remember buying 3 packages of paper with roughly 150 pages each! I burned through on one ... Read More:

I am a big fan of Epson's printers. But this scanner has been a nightmare. I bought it in June of 2008, and started scanning my vast archive of negatives. I soon noticed that there were color bands showing up on the right side of my images, detrimental to more subtle images with washes of cloudy sky, etc.
I called Epson, and they referred me to a service center. so I drove the 45 minutes and dropped it off. They spent a month replacing part after part, and then couldn't test the scanner to see if it worked or not, and wanted me to drive up there and give them some negatives to test. Don't you think a service center should be able to test a scanner? Wow.
So I call customer service and tell them that I am not willing to spend another afternoon ... Read More:
Bought this printer for light home use because it was cheap and fairly small. After printing about 20 pages, it mangled a sheet. I pulled the jammed sheet out per the manual's instructions (it came out in one piece), but the fault light will not go out no matter what I do. The transport system is completely clear.
I'm kicking myself because I bought an extra set of ink cartridges with the printer, which are now useless. I never had a problem like this with any of my HP printers. Stay away from Canon.
I've had my printer dock for about 4 years and the only reason I keep it is because it also charges the battery to the camera. My main problem is 9 times out of 10, the printer jams or misfeeds. I just tried the rubbing alcohol on the paper roller and it was able to grab the paper. Also, the picture doesn't print out immediately, it pulls the picture back and forth through the paper feed to add each additional layer of color so this constant use of the paper feed may also be the reason for the paper jams. The picture quality is good but I've just reverted back to uploading my pictures and having them printed at local store. This product is not recommended.
