Microsoft AutoRoute Europe 2007

We used Autoroute in Amsterdam for 3 days. Using the Microsoft GPS Antenna supplied with Streets and Trips 2008. AutoRoute Europe was the worst package I have ever worked with and was continuously slow to warn about turns and frequently planned turns the wrong way on one way streets. It was enough to convince me to by a TomTom GPS for the car and what a difference. The TomTom is an excellent product and will certainly leave you much less frustrated.

And it gets better as you become more adept at scrolling through the globe/map. For what it is - and be perfectly clear: it's just what it says it is: a 3D Globe - it allows for a considerable range of information. There's also text about countries and so forth; but the text is extremely limited in that it gives very little geographical data about the countries (such as highest and lowest points and average height). Also, the topography is not as good or as detailed as on a regular atlas (e.g.,it gives no indication of relative heights of mountain ranges). When using the software, it helps to also have an encyclopedia open so as to toggle back and forth to get the kind of detailed information that 3D Globe doesn't have. I'd have given this ... Even though it is 2008, there are roads built in 2005-2006 not in the directions. Makes for a HUGE problem.

Other than that, it works as advertised.

I had older versions and used them on several of MY computers. This version installed on both my laptop (great for travel) and desktop, but when my laptop crashed and I bought a new one, I was not allowed to install a 3rd time. I called tech support and was told I should use all lower case for the key code even when the key code is shown in caps and installed properly the first time using caps. I asked for a supervisor who then told me I was allowed only ONE installation!!!

What idiots!! Although I really like Streets and Trips I will no longer upgrade. I have a Garmin and a Dash, so it is not a big issue for me (except that I wasted my money).

I am going to install 2008 and go back to 2007.

I use this software mainly to calculate mileage & gas cost while on the computer. Ill switch to a portable GPS unit on the road.

I used this software to map a trip across the country from New York to Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, and a couple more stops. If your stops are near major roads then this software usually works. But if your stops are off the major roads then the software doesn't know if it's routing you on a paved road or a dirt road. The software routed me on a dirt road for 46 miles. So 20 miles from my last stop I had to come up with my own route after running into the dirt road. I ended up having to drive back to where I started from. On another occasion the software directed me to a road, but there was no road.

The software comes in useful when you've missed a turn. Press F3 and it will find a route back to where you want to go and direct you. Other ... Read More:

Earthmate GPS PN-20

My Earthmate GPS works great. The only thing I would change is the USB plug on the devise. It sometimes fails to make good contact and needs to be cleaned befor connection. I also would like to have control over the device odometer so I can match it up with the actual miles I have on my bike.

I really like this product. It works very well with my Holux GPSlim 236 GPS device via bluetooth to my laptop. It speaks the names of the steet names and automatically recalculates the route if you miss a turn.
