This is a pretty neat program, even for adults. We used it to introduce our nephew to touch typing and he made a lot of progress in two weeks, after he got past the not so intuitive opening bits. [Best to just jump past them.] Then I tried it to touch up my own typing skills -- worked well. The "kids stuff" is sort of fun once you get to a certain age, and the key thing is the keyboard exercise.

I bought it for my kids 9 and 11. My 11 year old liked it but my 9 year old thought that the exercies were too hard and activities are not fun. He likes his sponge bob typing cd better.

I bought SpongeBob Typing because my autistic eight-year-old son has severe graphomotor delays, and can't keep up with his classmates when writing in the classroom. So his teachers and I have incorporated the use of a school-provided laptop in his IEP for his class writing so he won't fall behind. But that means he needs to learn to type--a year or two earlier than his peers will. Just because he thinks it's fun, my six-year-old son is playing with the tutorial too, and learning to type. When they're ready, I'll let their little sisters join them.
This typing tutorial isn't perfect, but it addresses the needs of the student well. SpongeBob's presence and humor, and the memorable games keep my sons interested. We also bought ... Read More:

Looking at the reviews,my problem is not a rare occurrence.i received this cd-rom software that was defective. I emailed them 3 times but never got a response. they only responded after a complaint was put through amazon. I wouldn't buy anything else from oc tech.

The Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing program is a user-friendly tool for each of my children, ages 9, 11 and 13. They eagerly work through the lessons and are progressing weekly, each at their own pace. I even enjoy going through the exercises to refresh my skills. We are a home-school family and this program is great for us. I highly recommend it for beginning and seasoned typists.

I'm StoryMaker, and I've been enjoying JumpStart products since I was in Kindergarten. When I saw JumpStart Typing (which I had already researched plenty about) at the library, I got it - mostly not for me, but for one of my sisters, Chocolate Dog, who, no offence meant, isn't exactly the world's most utterly and overly fantastic typist. I didn't think this would benefit me a lick 'cause, no bragging meant, I'm a pretty speedy, pretty accurate typist. Because C-Dog didn't show much interest in it at first, I played it. It's great!
The Basic Storyline
Because it's a bit more fun to hear about the storyline once you play, I'll just say it involves the characters in JumpStart (Advanced) 3rd Grade and using Power Cards to unlock ... Read More:

I was already a very speedy typist when I bought Mavis Beacon for my husband, and for fun I tried the programme too: well, it immediately spotted my weak point: symbols and numbers (I rarely have to use them!), and earnestly presented me a lesson on those. I was mortified and I laughed, so started using it myself. This is one of the wonderful features: the programme sees where your weaknesses are, and in the next lessons concentrates on those. Then my son grew up, and started using it, then my daughter was born, and now she's almost 11 and has also started using it... of course it's a different version now, the third I own. I find it as brilliant as it was, although I must say that the changes from v.9 to v.16 are not that many. But then, if a thing ... Read More:
Nobody has really compared this program to Jumpstart 3rd Grade, which features the same charactors, so I've decided to do it. Perhaps the best metaphore is that Jumpstart 3rd Grade is like a theatricaly released film and Jumpstart Typing is like a direct-to-video release. For one thing, there is no CGI animation in Jumpstart Typing, like there is in Jumpstart 3rd Grade. For another there is a lote less at stake in the plot. Jumpstart Typing isn't really like a prequel or a sequel, just a different adventure in the same world.
The only recuring charactors are Prof. Spark, Polly and Botley. This is a bit disapointing that we don't see any other charactors from Jumpstart 3rd Grade, especially since we only meet one new charactor. Jumpstart Typing ... Read More:
