I do computer training and light technical work for small offices and home users. I used to recommend Norton, but in recent years it had caused so many problems, from slowing down the machine to requiring daunting re-installs, that I advised many clients to just use a free anti-virus and the built-in firewalls and hope for the best. I was encouraged to try again based on good reviews and have not been disappointed. It is fast and does its work in the background without calling attention to itself. Norton always handled bugs about as well as anyone, it was just that the users got beat up too.

Probably the most expensive of all - but also has the highest of ratings.
This is my second year using Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) and I am more satisfied than last year. This version seems to create fewer confusing situations and also appears to be stealth in operation.
I have to admit, however, there is a lot to this program that I know little about - but try and learn as I use it.
There wasn't a User Manual with the shipped product, but there is an easily downloadable version that you can obtain from Kaspersky.com I am one that would have prefered a hardcopy at installation - but loading and launching was a breeze!
From my past experiences with this product it can be difficult getting through ... Read More:

While I did not expect much with McAfee Internet Security 2009 it did, at least, meet my expectations. As someone that works in the computing industry I know how the consumer level anti-virus packages can be below par and really cause headaches for the end user. Corporate level packages are much better, but I will get off topic here...
McAfee Internet Security 2009 was decently quick during the installation and updating phases. It followed the usual steps of uninstalling older software packages and did it with ease, but I'm sure it was just luck in my case. After the install and updating, I found the menus to be fairly easy to navigate. However, I personally feel that most anti-virus/internet security packages (McAfee included) offer too many ... We're very happy with it, there doesn't seem to be any slow down and it does what it's supposed to do. Slow down was the thing I was worried about most, so I give it 5 stars.

I started out feeling very frustrated with BitDefender. When I installed BitDefender, it did not work immediately. I kept getting an error message that said the "services" were unavailable. Nothing I did would get BitDefender to work properly. It wouldn't even let me uninstall it. Despite being an administrator using Vista, it still told me that I didn't have permission to uninstall it.
After much frustration, I gave in and contacted BitDefender customer support. I was quite surprised by the help I received. I emailed customer service and an agent actually responded (as opposed to just getting a form letter in garbled English as a reply). The agent instructed me on fixing the problem. He looked at the list of programs installed on my computer and told me that a program ... Read More:

I love Symantec's Norton Internet Security! I've been using this to protect my computer since 2002, and haven't had any problems. As soon as I installed this 2008 version, Symantec sent me a message letting me know a free upgrade was available to the 2009 version! Plus, I received this item earlier than expected. I couldn't be any happier! Thanks!

We needed two programs, since we have laptops for the kids' home school work, and this only has a license for three computers, this is comparable to the other program we're using, it doesn't slow things down and works fine. The kids hate it since it limits their internet so it must be doing something right!

I bought this for my work MacBook so that I could continue to run a few essential XP applications.
Pros:
* Seamless XP App integration with Unity
* Free upgrade to 2.x
* Downloadable utility to import your old Windows PC image saves a ton of reinstall work.
* Plenty of available VMware images containing Open Source OS's available to tinker with.
Cons:
* Watch the fine print on the rebate - I sent mine in > 30 days later and the request was denied. One would think hanging onto the funds a bit longer would mean more interest earned.
* If your Mac crashes while your guest is open, be prepared to recover the guest disk image from backup.
* Adequate guest performance requires a substantial amount of host memory if you plan on running Mac native apps ... Read More:

I have been using this software for years. Works perfect for me. I've been using computers for nearly 25 years now. This is not a stand alone program. Works well with McAfee Suite. Also using RegCure and Diskeeper with Invisi Tasking which is a must. All programs with auto update.
This is a great security program for your computer.
