I have been using Microsoft Access since the early 1990s, and I have been teaching it in the classroom and online for over a decade. I was a contract database developer for many years.

Access is one of my favorite programs. It has all the power that most people and small businesses need to create extraordinary databases, yet it's easy to use. You can be up and running with Access in just a few hours with the help of a good book or tutorial.

Easy install, but need to have some MS Office Suite or earlier version of Access. Requirements are listed on website.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional Upgrade

Installation was a problem. I needed to contact Microsoft and they needed to use a Cleanup Utility to uninstall parts of .net so the installation would work.
Windows form applications seem to be about the same. They are pushing a new type of windows application called WPF. The problem with WPF is the toolbox is missing many of the useful controls which exist on the Windows Form Application. WPF forces you to use XAML to code these if you want these controls. I believe Microsoft is trying to incorporate their Expression Web product into Visual Studio with WPF.

I purchased the Expression Studio 2 suite of programs a few months ago and have really enjoyed working with all of them. The current version seems stable and useful. The program modules enhance each other and work well together. It has very good documentation for all the programs in the help files. These are advanced programs that take some time to become proficient with but are worth the effort.
I use the Design program with a wacom graphic tablet The user interface is well designed and the tools have a consistent logic. Import and export capabilities are good.
I have found a lot of use for the Media module. This is a powerful, easy to use, photo organizing program. Another feature is the ability to make html galleries for the web. There ... Read More:
