Apple iLife '06 (Mac DVD) [OLD VERSION]

The main programs I use are Iphoto and Itunes. Since Itunes is free (and if you have an Ipod, you have no choice), I'll concern myself with Iphoto and not rate the other programs in the suite. I have not upgraded to Ilife 08, nor do I have any plans to.

Although Iphoto is not free, a lot of programs rely on it (such as ComicLife) so not using Iphoto is almost not a choice.

First of all, if you have a substantial photo collection (mine is over 40,000 images), you need to have memory. I found that Iphoto was very slow until I put 2gb into my Mac Mini (which is the most mine will take). Now it's just a little slow. Second, Iphoto is VERY picky about your photo collection. I've been developing web sites since 1995 and I have tried absolutely everything for web development. I keep coming back to this as the solution. I tried Microsoft Front Page, but that took so long to learn to get past the basics, and I had so many problems with uploading sites and especially individual pages that I concluded it is just not a professional tool.

The system for creating templates can speed the creation and update of your web creation tremendously. I have done over 400 small business websites with this product and think you should start with this one, and learn how to use it really well. It is the best. DreamWeaver Rocks. Fireworks Rocks. Together they make for a spectacular web design/development combination.

Dreamweaver is packed with features for the beginner through advanced web developer; it's easy and intuitive to use. It may take you a while to learn all the capabilities, but with each successive feature you discover and master, the development process becomes easier and faster.

Fireworks is the best in class web graphics software. It integrates very well with DreamWeaver. Creating animated GIFs is a snap, as is image optimization (file compression), image map creation, and exploring full tables (HTML and all!) for use in DreamWeaver.

Dreamweaver/Fireworks Studio 3.0 for Mac

I bought this package based on a friend's recommendation. Looking back I wish I had saved the money and just bought Dreamweaver. I think they are both great programs, but from my experience you need only need one. If you own Illustrator or Photoshop you can build your graphics there and import them into Dreamweaver. If you don't just buy Fireworks, you can build an entire site and all your graphics in this program.

I am a novice at web design, and I wanted to jump right in with setting up a site. I found both of the instructional guides a bit frustrating and overwhelming. Unfortunately, I purchased this program because of Adobe's reputation. Maybe Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat are great programs, but adobe has really struck out with golive. it has a clunky interface. the ftp browser hangs on me everytime I upload.
the interface is not intuitive. when I edit pages, strange glitches occur.Shareware programs are easier to use, although not as feature rich as golive. Most of the experienced web designers I have talked to recommend dreamweaver. it looks like I will have to buy Dreamweaver

Learning Macromedia Fireworks MX 2004

This was a really fun CDrom. I was disappointed when I finished the last movie. I would have loved to just keep going.

I had previously been a Fireworks user for quit some time but I tried this CD out anyway and I am really glad I did. I can use Fireworks far better and it takes me less time now to work with it.

Because of Abigail Rudner's CDrom I am a queen on the pen tool! Before it frightened me and when I tried to use it it attacked me and ran back into the tool box. She teaches you how to wrangle it and its one of my favorite tools.

Adobe GoLive 6.0 Upgrade

On my G4 (I do have ample memory- 1.5 gb RAM) Go Live 6 is great. Substantially faster than previous versions. I have had no crashes, freezes, or other annoyances. After about 9 months, I don't want to work with any application that is not OS X native anymore. This one works for me as advertised. I would give five stars but for a few clunky idiosyncracies that have always been present in GoLive. (I find that this is a two-monitor application: site window and tool windows on the left monitor; open page on the right. I've used it with one monitor and it's really crowded.)

Adobe Creative Suite Premium 1.1 (Mac) [Old Version]

I love the new Adobe CS. It doesn't have a printed manual, but I like the fact that I can click on the help button and search for the answer I need.
I much prefer InDesign over Quark. It is easier to use, and you can set the shortcuts to be the same as Quark if you are having trouble switching over.
I had used other html programs before, and I jumped into GoLive with a limited learning curve. Any questions I had were easily answered by searching the help.
I highly recommend this group of programs!
