I purchased this piece of junk thinking it would be the solution to transferring my VHS tapes to disc. Was I ever taken in! Tech support was helpful and responsive. My computer met all the requirements for the VivBox, but after numerous attempts to secure a decent transfer it did not work well. Audio and sound were out of sync. Several inquiries to the tech support suggested that I try this-and-that, all with no success. At last one tech told me to try the gadget on several different computers which I did---still no success. After several days I received an e-mail from tech support admitting defeat. This is a great program for getting your home movies and favorite recorded programs onto your Video iPod. Simple and easy to use. Those that rated it negatively were after a program they thought would circumvent copy protection which this program doesn't allow. Of course there are ways to get around this, i.e., loading AnyDVD prior to starting Video Vault...which, of course, may be illegal in many countries and frowned upon by the MPAA ;).

I've gotten this software to work only twice. My hardware and firewall meet the requirements for this product and seem to be set properly. It will not update either. I've tried contacting customer service, however they remain unavailable... Waste of time and money.

A few months ago, I was searching for a product to convert my VHS tapes to DVD format, as I am moving in the coming months and wanted to "downsize" a bit. The first product I chose was this one, and I was severely disappointed for a couple of reasons:

First, any product of this nature involves a bit of an investment. One must buy DVD's and cases, as well as an audio/video cord (and probably an extra long one, if you don't have an extra VCR laying around, as it needs to be pretty near your computer).

Well, the features of this product are amazing, and it's definitely a great solution to video editing. But this is only true once you learn how to use it! At first you have no idea what's what, and it's the typical Adobe product with windows all over the place. Sure, it's a great product, but it's only for those who have lots of time to sit down and learn how to use it.

excellant product!! very easy to install and set up. the only down fall is the remote is wired, but you can get use to it. the lighting system just takes a little bit to get use to and once you do it is smooth sailing. very good product and an even better price!!!

Adobe Premiere 6.5

I'm not an expert in the field of editing, but I plan to be, and I did have the opportunity to use Adobe Premiere 6.5 (in conjunction with Adobe After Effects, version 5.5, I believe) in a video editing class at my college. I think it's a fantastic program with a lot of possibilities.

While I can't say that I knew what to do with the program when I first sat down with it, I did get a lot of time to experiment. By the end of semester, I was quite deeply in love with the program. I found the A/B editing mode to be very useful - not only for simplicity's sake, but also because of the use of transitions. All the projects I handed in had a simple "fade to the next video bloc" transition in it.

Oh, i so wanted to give this program 5 stars. However, the glaring weakness that is the helpfile chops off a whole star. Considering my utter frustration as i plodded and plunked away trying to learn the program, i could have chopped off 2 stars for the aggravation. But I am not going to chop the whole tree down because of a few mushrooms growing on the side. Once you learn the program, it is a lot of fun. For us guys just trying to edit the family videos, its got more than enough features. If you want to go further, it has lots of other stuff though I will admit, im just in it to make cheesy little horror films with my buddies and edit the family videos. I can't speak for the professionals who do this for a living.
