I use a Canon HG10 which only records in HD using the AVCHD standard. The SW that came doesn't come close to allowing you to do much editing/DVD making. With this camera it is easy to copy the video files from HG10 to my computers HD then I begin using the editing tool.
I compared this to several others you can find on the net: Ulead, Pinnacle, cyberlink and maybe a few others. I can tell you, without a doubt the Sony SW is so much faster. That means I don't need a super powerful computer to do all the editing and making of a DVD. It also doesn't crash like many of the competitor editors. Cost is roughly the same and you have a 30 day trial period. One disadvantage is this SW is a bit more difficult to use--maybe it just has a higher ... Read More:

While Vegas 9.0b improves features over 8.0d, it crashes much more often than its predecessor on Vista 64 Home Premium.
Pros: Now you can save AVCHD files and WMP11.
Cons: Crashes often during editing in the trimmer. Still not a 64-bit app even though the Pro version is.
Until they fix the crashing, it was not worth my $57 for the upgrade from 8 to 9.

ACID Music Studio is a useful tool for intermediate-level music production. With this software you can record & produce your own music as well as layer your song with loops, which are bundled with the software to help you hit the ground running. Loops are also available for free online, just do a search for "royalty free loops."
ACID Music Studio also gives you the ability to remix, create mashups, make your own loops from scratch, collaborate with other artists from afar, etc.
In the beginning it can be frustrating; it isn't very intuitive and the tutorial is sub-par, but, with some picking & poking, you will understand the basics in no time.
Sony's own acidplanet.com is a wonderful community of musicians ... Read More:

I have owned this software for about two weeks. My only prior experience with video editing is Movie Maker and InterVideo WinDVD. I was originally going to purchase Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8 but then I noticed this version was just released and it has some new features.
After some initial frustration I am happy with the purchase. The learning curve is what is so frustrating especially for a novice like me. I made two coasters (though I admit that was really my fault) and at one point I was considering trying to return it for a refund because I was getting so stressed. I still get frustrated with the fact that you have to use two separate programs: Vegas Movie Studio 9 to make the movie and DVD Architect 4.5 (included) to make the menus and author the ... I am using Windows XP Home version. Installed the program. Registered the program with Sony. Program ran OK immediately after installation. Tried to run in again several days later and got following error message: "This application has failed to start because AudioStudio90k.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."
I re-installed the program, and it asked me to register the program again! Not knowing if Sony would let me register it twice, I took the "Register later" option. I was able to use it for one session immediately after re-installation. I tried to use it again [for a third time], about a week later and got the SAME error message that "AudioStudio90k.dll was not found."
I have not installed or removed any other ... Read More:

I have used the Sonic Foundry 4.0 Version of this software and decided to upgrade to this one. I have not used this version EXTENSIVELY yet, but from what I have seen, it looks to be almost the very same program with only a few changes. At least I won't have to re-learn the software! I have made VERY professional videos using the 4.0 version, so this version will only make them better! The Price of this Program is amazingly low compared to how much stuff it can do for you! I like the new Sound Effects that come with this version, although it says there is 1001 sound effects when it looks to actually be 969 effects. The simple REVERSE tool is cool and easy to do and it works on both the Video Tracks as well as the Audio Tracks! The built-in Tutorials Feature is SUCH a plus for a beginner ... Read More:

Just bought a new Canon HG21 AVCHD and this software will not recognize it. Hooked up my older Sony Mini DV and it works fine. BEWARE! Sony claims UNRESOLVED ISSUES!

Buyer Beware! I took delivery of this product from Amazon on 28 August 2008. I normally (correctly)assume that my Amazon purchases are getting me the latest available edition of books, etc., and that is usually the case. In this case, however, I learned after installing the product that there is a version 9.0 of this product. I registered my version 8 product but received no offer for free upgrade to version 9.0.
I believe that this is a good product, but I would recommend investing your money towards the newer version. I believe that there should be a free upgrade if the new version is out and you have unknowingly just purchased the prior version (both are the same price as far as I can tell). Just my thoughts.

"Audio editing software? Who needs it?"
I've heard that comment fairly often. Usually from folks who embrace every software application under the sun. People seldom question the need for photo or video editing software but often audio editing flies under the radar.
Audio editing, if you don't have some experience or background, can seem daunting. On the other hand, if you shoot video, transfer music from old media, run a sound system for your organization, do recorded interviews, or use sound files in any way, you're going to want to be able to edit and output the best quality audio possible.
Whether you are sound-editing savvy or a newcomer, using an online or DVD tutorial is a marvelous way to review the new features and to learn and master Sound Forge 9 quickly ... Read More:

I got this to goof around with and to consider letting my 3-year-old daughter play with. The program is probably too advanced for my daughter, though I'm sure it's usable by some 4 and 5 year olds (it's recommended for ages 6 to 9). But I find it pretty fun, and it seems like, even for an adult, a good first step toward using Sony's Acid products. So I recommend it, but with reservations.
As another reviewer noted, the program expects you to have the CD inserted (the loops -- the building blocks of the songs -- are on the CD). This is a huge drag. There's a way around it, but it requires some computer savvy. Specifically, you have to copy an image (an ISO file) of the installation CD to your hard drive, then "mount" that image so that your computer thinks the CD is in your drive. You can then ...
