I'm headed to Europe later this winter on business for a month and wanted to learn some basics to help me get by. Even if you're obviously an American, I've found if you make an effort, the locals treat you a lot better. I'm headed to Southern France, Spain and then up to Germany, so I got all three languages. The thing I really like about these programs is the different approaches included in each. The software program is very step-by-step. I found the pedagogy easy to follow and intuitive. I suggest starting with the main software program. It even critiques your speaking with a microphone, so if you don't have one, it is worth the $20. Rosetta Stone Version 3: Russian Level 1, 2 & 3 Set with Audio Companion

Rosetta Stone Russian levels 1,2, and 3 is a tremendous adjunct to the study of this language. However, I would NOT recommend it unless you have considerable background and knowledge of Russian already, as it moves rapidly from one concept and many new words without any explanation in English (and often the accompanying pictures are not completely explanatory). I've already mastered Pimsleur's Russian I, II, and III (90 30-minute lessons), plus another Russian course with 40 lessons, and still I find myself in the English-Russian dictionary a half-dozen times at each Rosetta Stone session. The videos were very informative for my parents who are learning to use computer. I would very strongly recommend this product.

I bought this game for my 6 years old daughter. While the game does have a few good ideas and moments I wouldn't say that it's a good product. At the age of 6 kids needs to be pulled in the educational game instead of being forced by the parents. This game in some situations looks like a definite overkill for 6 years old while in others it's too simple. The one thing is certain - my daughter is not engaged and it takes a lot of efforts to ask her to play on a computer this game which never happened before. So while this game does have a few good ideas and is a decent learning product it's far from being perfect or even good enough.

Act! By Sage 2007

Our firm has been using ACT! for over 12 years. It "was" a great product at one time, but it has been trash since they went to the new SQL platform. Slow, cumbersome, hangs, and crashes. The integration with MS OUTLOOK is awful. We have quit trying to use the email integartion with Outlook two years ago.

The software has serious problems, but Sage has had no significant updates or patches to fix them. They want you to buy the newer version in hopes of something better. We tried that once, and it was still junk. We have sent several emails to Sage looking for help or direction, but never got a response from them.

We will migrate to a new software product by the end of this month. Act! is not worth the aggravation.

Basically, this is a package containing 3 CDs chock full of tutorials on a number of programs like Macromedia Flash, Adobe Photoshop, as well as HTML fundamentals/advanced HTML. It could potentially save you hundreds and thousands of dollars spent on real-world courses of the same nature. Of course, you have to have plenty of free time in order to really get the most out of Web Pages & Graphics 5, but it is definitely worth it. One quibble that I have with this package is that it could have been just one DVD, instead of 3 CDs, but it doesn't make it less valuable, really.

Worst program on the planet. Spent $600.00 for level 1,2,3 two hours to download and install. Not working. Call support talk to 3 different people and 2 hours more....still not working. Don't buy this program it doesn't work and the tec people can't help. Sure wish I had kept my money.
You would think a program costing this much would have it together. VERY UNHAPPY.

This stuff is a bit outdated, but I have no trouble using it with Windows XP. Suffice it to say that this software is actually quite good, especially now that it's so cheap. There are a lot of listening activities, vocab, etc. In fact, it's oddly similar to the newer Transparent Language products... hmm.

Anyway, give this program a try - it's a great buy and a lot of fun.

Also, look for the Practice Makes Perfect vocabulary software - they sell it on eBay for <$10 and it's just as good as Transparent's $50 equivalent (or Rosetta Stone's $500 version).
