It sounds sappy, but this program literally changed my life. I was in the seventh grade and didn't really know what I wanted to do with my life. My mom bought this for me for my birthday (back when it was new). I stayed up all night going through the tutorials and finally, tried to write my own simple program, but found I had no clue what to do. But I stuck with it, I went through the tutorials again, and paid more attention. It completely changed my life, I absolutely loved programming with LTPB (as it was affectionately called), I made a ton of awesome games (I have them on a CD somewhere), and now like 9 or 10 years later I'm a video game programmer. Borland C++ Builder 6 Profesional

This is one of the best programming anvironment I've ever used. If you like c++ and want all windows, buttons, frames, databases elements ready to use this is just for you. In the box Windows and Linux (kylix ) version is included. I have not run linux version yet. I did a very large program to analyses internet discission for my MC using it!

This software Landscape vision has a new downloadable version that is much better then the cd one. More options, bigger screen, no changing your grapic setting anymore. Let's you import any image too. I both the first version and liked it, but I needed more options so I upgraded to the next version, and I'm really liking it. This software Landscape vision has a new downloadable version that is much better then the cd one. More options, bigger screen, no changing your grapic setting anymore. Borland C++ Builder 5.0 Professional

I'm a self-taught novice programmer, so these comments are not geared towards for the experts.

Borland's C++ Builder is light years ahead of MS Visual C++ (which is an extremely painful programming environment). C++ Builder is like Visual Basic for C++. It's really easy to learn, and I've been able to get results very quickly.

The only problem with C++ Builder is the lack of documentation. Borland is obviously not the market leader, consequently it's harder to find helpful, intelligent C++ Builder books than it is to find books for VB, Access, VC, ASP, SQL or other programming languages.

Dreamweaver UltraDev 4.0

UltraDev is an outstanding tool that extends the functions of DreamWeaver to include database connectivity. It's got more features and functions than DreamWeaver and it is a little bit more complicated to learn (naturally, your dealing with databases and the coding involved in integrating them with your previously static web site).

They really should take the WinME out of the platforms on which it will run. You can do it, but have to tinker with your OS instead of just installing it. For best results, get Win98, 2000, or XP PRO. XP Home falls into the same class as WinME.

FileMaker Pro 6.0 EDU

I've been using Filemaker for years and have become addicted to making and using databases for everything. This upgrade brings total OS X compatability at last. Filemaker 6 is a great upgrade - the cross-platform nature of this application makes it extremely useful in mixed environments.
It is very easy to use - I've had students of mine teach themselves how to use it in a week and begin building complicated relational databases in two weeks.
