This set is really a collection of two games (the first and second LOTR games, along with the expansion for the second game) with some bonus features, which mainly consist of interviews with various game developers. For the price (I got it when it was 30 dollars, and it's even cheaper now), this is a pretty good deal if you are an LOTR and/or RTS fan.

As far as RTSes go, this is an average game. It's not as polished as Blizzard's RTSes, for example, but the gameplay is reasonably interesting, being roughly based on a rock-paper-scissors model. Plain and simple, this game does everything that should have been in Oblivion. I played it for two years straight before i moved onto something else, i think that speaks volumes in itself.

i don't spend much time on it but when i do, i thoroughly enjoy all the new options up from rct 2 (and 1 even).

its not hard to adjust to after the old ones, just takes a few minutes of clicking around and playin around

Good Points: Going on dates makes having your sims fall in love more realistic, and hello, they can have cars now! That means you never have to call a taxi (or miss a carpool) ever again if you don't want to.
Bad points: Vampires. Even if you want your sims to be one, it is next to impossible to build up enough relationship with one to get bitten, because the vampires build relationship more slowly than the active sim. And if you stay out all night trying? Your sim is likely to die the next day of starvation because they go to bed as soon as they get home and don't get to the fridge on time. I have been playing (read: addicted) to this game for over 2 years now and all i can say is, i want more! I have read a lot of flak aimed at the controls, especially on PC, and honestly i don't see it. Controls are standard WASD movement of almost every PC game in existence, i think people that complain about it are just too used to xbox/ps2 controllers. And to say that nothing can be done solo in this game is just admitting that you are lazy. I'll admit that its not like WoW in as far as soloing is super easy, but it is still far from impossible. Basically this is an MMO geared toward a more mature audience, and believe me if you spend the time you will be rewarded accordingly.

I was wary of trying this when I saw all of the bad reviews, but after buying and using it for 4 months, I don't regret purchasing it. True, it seems a little disjointed, but once you remember that you use the program by using the top menu bar and do your navigation that way and through the little windows on the screen, one gets used to it. But remember, this software wasn't written for Leopard. I had no problem what so ever using it.

Book arrived as expected. I have bought "Step by Step" books on many programs. This one, like the rest, has been very helpful. There are sections I skip because they are very basic, but other readers may find the basic information very helpful.
