I was looking for a simplistic way to digitally record our messages at church in lieu the present cassette system. I tried several trial versions of all the popular audio recording programs that were available on the internet and finally settled on Sony Sound Forge. It does what I wanted it to do and does a very good job at it once it is set up. I will never know the extent of it's capabilities which seem endless but I have used one of it's features to reduce the size of an existing MP3 file so that it was manageable.
One Con that I have is that while you are in the record mode you have to be careful what key you hit on the keyboard. If you accidentially hit the space bar, the recording stops. Hit the enter key it starts playing back what ... Read More:

When I first opened the box and looked at the details, there were two things that concerned me right away:

1) The card does not capture audio. It requires that the audio signal is routed through your sound card.

2) The card lists several capture formats, but it's important to note that the various formats are available via *software*. i.e., it appears that the card itself just captures frames, and it's the Pinnacle Studio software that does the conversion into DV/MPEG/etc. in real-time.

I bought this hoping it would solve my problem capturing analog video. My Pinnacle AV/DV board, which I bought back with Studio 9, no longer brought analog in properly: the audio was almost a second behind the video. The AV/DV board worked properly with Studio 10, but nothing could get it to work with Studio 11. Another factor is that my new computer was dual core, which could have contributed. Studio 11 makes use of dual cores, while Studio 10 doesn't -- and of course the AV/DV board predates dual cores. I gambled this would do the job, because the Movieboard included an audio input (AV/DV relies on your computer's sound board to bring in the audio). This is a must for piano students and music majors alike! The authors did a fantastic job of making the entire experience intuitive. It was totally easy to install. You don't have to read a single manual to get going. I don't think I've ever used the 'help' feature, nor do I know if it HAS a help feature.

This product can be best thought of as a game that is divided into lessons. Each lesson is a variation on the same game with varying degrees of difficulty. The objective is to get the best score you can. After a few minutes of playing the first lesson, I could actually close my eyes and play, and still scored high!

PowerDVD 8 Deluxe

I've used PowerDVD for many years. It works quite well and supports the wide variety of media that I want to play. This new version is no exception. It supports formats like MPEG-4 AVC and DivX Pro, the HD detail is quite satisfying.



Audio-wise, PowerDVD works fine on 7.1 ch and 5.1 ch. No complaints.



The thing I like particularly is the feature called "Do It Smart" with which I can move subtitles and repeat dialogs.



As for the new "Remix" function. It might be fun but I don't find any time to try it yet.

Cakewalk Music Creator 3

I purchased this software from Comp USA, Ridgeland, MS. The store is now
closed. When I loaded the program in it had no sound. I own more than a
dozen music software programs. Also when I went to register the software,
they responded back, it could not be registered. I have the serial number
and the VIP code needed to register it with. It has sense enough to pull
the serial number out of my computer. All I needed was my name, address,
email address, and VIP Code. If I could rate this product on a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate it at -100. I have some great music software but this is not one of them.
